What Is The Vision Of The Game?

What is the purpose of XYZ?
I see a bazillion posts about how XYZ's purpose in the game is SUPPPOSED to be A when other people say it's supposed to be B.
What this thread is dedicated to finding out is what the purpose of EVERYTHING in the game is supposed to be. It's really more like a dedicated letter to the DEVS since they're they only opinions that really matter. Not PTs, not Vets, Devs. Flayra and his cronies. If I'm lucky, it could even be answered and stickied for everyone to see and draw from. It would solve a lot of confusion and arguement if people could suggest and comment on the game from the devs perspective instead of their own.
So to start off, besides the purpose of the game to be fun to play and hope a million people play it, let's get started.
What is the purpose of marine structures? Each individual one. What are they meant to do? What is each of their roles in the game? How are they meant to interact with the environment? How are they supposed to effect the power of the marine team? Here's a short list of just some of the structures off the top of my head:
Turret Factory
Infantry Portal
Comm Chair
Res Tower
Turrets
Siege Cannon
Armory
Proto Lab
Observatory
Arms Lab
Phase Gate
and some alien structures:
Offense Tower
Defense Tower
Hive
Res Tower
Movement Chamber
Sensory Chamber
Also, we'd like to find out the purpose of abilites/guns. What is each weapon meant to do? Is X supposed to be a counter to Y? Is Y supposed to be a counter to Z? Is V's purpose to destroy structure U? Or is U a structure weapon while V is a alien/marine weapon? This will help us determine how to suggest balances to each weapon so they work like they're "supposed to". Considering nobody knows what each weapon is REALLY "supposed to" be used for, all suggestions up to this point have really been shots in the dark. Some marine weapons are:
Knife
Pistol
LMG
GL
HMG
Jet Packs
Some alien weapons are:
Bile Bomb
Gorge Spit
Skulk Bite
Parasite
Devour
Stomp
Web
Fade Claws
Acid Rocket
Blink
This is not meant to be a manual, per se, but more of a detailed explanation of the purpose of everything in the game. Just in case my point in posting this is not understood, I'll post an example or two of possible answers to some of these questions:
Acid Rocket - The fade's acid rocket is meant to be a long range marine killing weapon. It's not meant to take out structures, just marines. It's level of tech is hive level 3 (3 hives) and therefore meant to be an end game weapon, used to finish off the nearly dead enemy. It's an endgame weapon. It currently does 40 dmg with a direct shot and 20 dmg if hit by splash (just made up numbers).
Turrets - Turrets are meant to be deterants for defending marine outposts. They are not particulary strong and have only 100HP. They're range is 100 meters. They fire 2 times a second and do 20 dmg per shot. They should be able to be taken out by hive 1 aliens with some teamwork and hive 2 solo with some work or certain alien evolvs. They are not meant for offensive measures.
In this fashion, if you aren't a dev but have some of the information that's fact, like how much dmg weapons do or health on turrets, tfs, hives, ocs or whatever have, that would also probably be helpful. Any devs up for the challenge?

You have acid rocket with 1 hive, but you need 2 hives to get a fade.

It is a 1 hive weapon, because if you are a fade and the second hive is killed, you still have acid rocket. Hence: 1 hive weapon.
I understand the direction you are trying to take, and I definetly understand the concept.
You might want to continue this at a later time. Using concise information, conherent writing and grammar, and dictionary.com ( ), this could be very helpful to some players.
I would suggest doing it in 2 blocks, Kharaa and Marines. Then posting them in their strategy forums.
(:
Try and keep up the work Twisted Master, while I couldn't guarantee a sticky, I could guarantee that some persons would definetly find it useful.
It's true that a lot of weapons have different uses for different encounters but I thought there might be a general overlay of "purpose". I hear a lot of comments on the boards such as "Skulks are mean to be scouts" or "Skulks are meant to be able to take down the marine team alone with no upgrades (i.e. killing machines)". If we had some specs of info from the devs it would solve many many of these complaints as well as opening up discussion for change that would satisfy everyone's bloodlust.
Aside from that, just have the stats of all weapons and armor (the effect of armor and upgrades), building structure HP and all that would be very helpful.
