Things about it
I've heard about the jetpack feature a bit and seen the 'power' bar on the HUD. I just want to know how will the Jetpack "feel". I mean will it be like Tribes2? Or will it move more? Also will the jetpack feature be available in the first realese?

how will the jedpack ever be able to "feel" like it was tribes2, sure it might be done but keep in mind this mod is inside only, so u wont be able to fly up or down much

im sure they know how to handle the gravity and flight to make the actual flying a smooth flight unlike some certain other mods *cough* wizard wars *cough*

i think that for all we (the non playtesters/crewmembers) know, its will let you fly. and everything else is STC.

Maybe that is also STC. Who knows if Flay and the dev team are not thinking of a jetpack that acts like a microwave?
If you can put in a BOB you team gets extra rp for -ika- insane killing action..

oh its too early in the morning..

Jetpacks are lame, unrealistic. NS will feature indoors gameplay therefore they are also useless. I suggest making a high jumping device, would be useful in jumping over level 5s or reaching high places.

Maybe it could be some sort of anti-grav thingi that lowers the gravity for the person using it enabling them to make super-high jumps?

Though I would miss the nifty particle effect the jetpack could spit out.

In a mod full of aliens and space stations you are talking about jetpacks being unrealistic? Sheesh!

The amount of technology to make acceptable space travel, space stations makes a jetpack look like a cavemans rock.

oooooh... sekrats!

Silly playtetesters!

I don't see the jetpack as lame or a sad excuse for a jumping device or whatever, to tell you the truth I don't really care. It gets the job done, it'll allow for some very nasty turret placements, and no alien vent will be safe when the marines finally get access to the the jetpack.

How about the marines strap slinkys to ther feet or something?

Bio, I'm afraid you don't know what you're talking about. Why do you think you know more about NS then we do?

NASA and a coalition of some other world governments are building a space station right now. There have been a handful of space stations before, including Skylab and Mir (albeit all of these, including the International Space Station, are too small to set an FPS in). As far as I know, nothing like a working jetpack exists.

Jetpacks are pretty simple technology to get working. Getting them working properly is a different deal altogether though, but people have built short lift Jetpacks before. The NS version would go along the same principles, but with a regerating power source.

I don't consider a failed experiment that lifts you a few feet off the ground then destabilizes to be a "working jetpack".

NS technology is more advanced than todays, with space crafts that can go further and space stations that can be built bigger. I assume building a jetpack would be pretty simple compared to building Bast.

Anyway, that's not the point. I'm sure jetpacks are included mostly because of gameplay.

End discussion.

So a car that has to travel so far, and then refuel is not considered a "working car" either? Amazing, I should take mine in for repairs!

But this discussion is just plain silly, NS != Realism!

There have been working jetpacks for several decades now. The problem is one of fuel consumption - they can only fly for ... I forget the exact time, but it's SHORT. Much fewer than five minutes, I believe more on the order of two.

So, yes, they're possible.
• MCThornGristleMCThornGristle Join Date: 2002-06-06 Member: 733Members
I wasn't arguing that jetpacks shouldn't be in NS in case there was any confusion.. I think they're neat. I was just picking apart the guy who said if a civilization can build a space station, it must have bitchin' jetpacks.

Well, the day we have to worry about alien infestation on space stations far away from home, and we dont' have jetpacks, I'll send you 20$.
