Let's start with the obvious:

Counter - Strike: 6. It could be a great idea. If it only would be a little less realistic.

Action Half - Life: 8. The mod promises fast paced, easy to pick up, straightforward action. And it delivers just that.

The Opera: 8. Take AHL, add tons of style, cool new ideas, and some ridiculously obvious bugs - voilá.

Sience & Industry: 7. Very many very good features, but I for mine miss some sort of common style that glues it all together. Right now, it's the better TFC. Not more, not less.

Firearms: 5. Someone thought 'Let's take lots of weapons and... erm... lots of weapons.', and did so. Some aspects of the mod, p.e. the 'class' system, could be really great if they didn't drown in the sheer amount of, well, firearms.

Natural Selection (in playtest status): 9. And it gets better every weekend...

Front Line Force -- 7. Realistic settings, not-so-realistic gameplay, actual teamplay!

BuzzyBots -- 7. Play this if you're absolutely sick of uber-realistic counter-terrorism and military mods. It resembles an old-school arcade game like Robotron or Defender, and although it has its share of bugs and balance issues, it's still a lot of fun.

Front Line Force 9 - It's great, I would give it more but there are some issues with lots of lag with the default config. Try it

Action half-life - 9 - The best Deathmatch mod I have played in Half-life. It's weapons are so well balanced that I have seen every gun called a "#####" weapon at some time in the latest version. Also has teamplay modes and is very original.

SP Mods
Todesangst - 10 - Very good mod, probably the best single player mod that uses HAlf-life itself and doesn't rely on changnig every model and sound to cover poor gameplay. Very fun and I wouldn't have been suprised if the levels had been in half-life itself.
All this and Todesangst 2 is on the way.

Poke646 - 9 - You probably can't have missed this, if you have then do yourself and add this to your mod collection, even just the textures make it worth it. Also don't do what my mate did and play through it in software mode cos half of what really makes this mod very nice is the textures. Now it's not a texture mod by a long long way but it'd be a crime to not let this look it's nicest.
It's tricky in parts, but it's a good challenge. My only gripe is that the marines are remodelled with a really nice new Mp5 but you don't get ammo or their gun when you die, which is probably better for gameplay although it's just annoying.
Storyline is quite good too, and there is scope with an open ending for a second one (although I think that is unlikely from what I have heard).

Science and Industry (my take) - 9 unless playing with newbies who vote shotgun and whatever else will help your team the least, then its a 1

Half-life heroes - 3, it's a cool little game but buggy as hell and just as unstable

old builds of firearms - 5

new build of firearms - 8

Vampire Slayer (version 3) - 8 or 9 the best version to date, but again one of those games thats fun depends on who your playing with (like SI)

Vampire Slayer (version 4) - 5 alot of things were implemented to "improve" the game and many of them were not as good as before, like the new louise model

Peaces like us - 6 if you like single player this is a neat little mod

Rocket crowbar - 6.5 this game can either be the most hilarious thing ever created or the most obnoxious mod in history depending on your mood and tolerence for super weapons

Suprise - 6 like rocket crowbar but different

palisade - 7 this mod is very simple, but, ITS TRON BIKES!

I also recommend AHL, though I thought it peaked at beta4 myself, rather than the current beta5. Still a 9 though.

Also you might try Desert Crisis. Its not a mod for everyone, but if you like it then its pretty fun. Some of the players can be ######## though. The dev team aren't the big ol meanies they are rumored to be though :P I'd say its about an 8 cause its just plain fun. Its a complicated game though, the type where you gotta play for about a week before you even start to get good... (kinda like NS in that regard)

Hmmm..
I've only been playing 2 mods in the last little while, but they've been enough to keep me occupied.

Science and Industry (low 3/ high 9)
• This is a great mod when you are playing with friends, and you are working together as a team. With great players, this is a lot of fun, and there is alot of replay value, because you can choose a different style of play according to what upgrades and weapons you research.
Of course, the game can also be pretty bad sometimes. There are lots of ways for less... intelligent.. players to ruin the game for everyone else. One good player on a bad team can not do much against a decent team without llamas.

HyperPuck (8)
• This is a very fun mod, made by our own Fam ^_^.
It is not in final release yet, but erm, it is.. fun. Yes, very fun. Except for the fact that Fam uses his puck attract hack

9 of 10
It's the best mod i've played (only because i'm no NS-playtester )
Superb weapons, great teamplay, and the most detailed and atmospheric levels i've seen in a mod. The semi-realistic touch of this mod make a short time of learning important, but if you can handle the recoil, stamina and damage-system it funny and full of movie-like action (well, war-movies...)
It sounds sick to say "I like the war-feeling in this mod" but exactly that's the fact.

Front Line Forces 1.6
8 of 10
The best graphic-effects I think, a huge variety of weapons and an interesting gameplay. I didn't play the mod often, so i don't like it (it's unfair, i know that )

Team Fortress (Classic) - 9.5

Superbly balanced, easy to learn and hard to master, huge replay value, and just plain fun. It's hard to beat a professional mod...
• HubbubJubHubbubJub Join Date: 2002-06-22 Member: 811Members
DoD - 9 Probably the most polished, professional mod out there (well, at least until NS... ) .

Opera - 8 Besides some stability issues, this is a great mod that's worth a look-see.

TFC - 9 Superb. Balanced, high-quality...actually, it's more professional than DoD...well, they're both good!

CS - 1 Over-hyped piece of crap.

ok so, here we go
For mods that you try and be good at

Firearms 2.6 - 7 good weapon balance now, but the player models are seriously pap (yes worse than the 2.5 ones)
Counterstrike - 3(4 at a push) now im not jsut saying this to go with the crowd, but in all honesty I havent seen any major differances between beta 7 and release whatevathellitsatnow, plus the community spoils any sense of fun there may be left in the game
DoD 2.1 - 8(9 at a push) we all know day of defeta and i actually think its managed to capture teh combination of skill, semi teamwork and fun that a good MP game needs
Wasteland Halflife - 7 atm,
The Wastes as its soon to be known (once they release RC1) is shaping up to be one of the most graphically beautiful mods i've ever seen and its set in Post-Apoc world, which just doubles the fun value! However the current version does have its problems

(i'll post the others later or edit this post when im feeling more compus mentus)

How could I have forgotten about WHL? That's how I know Mr. Blonde, from when I was a lowly forum bum there.

Of course!

WHL was ok. But it got boring with just DM. It would need a lot of work for RC1, but who knows...

I was typing these out in full, but computer crashed and I lost them. So you get the big gif abridged version.

I broke the 'out of 10' limit for HyperPuck. As I am sure Flayra would do with NS, your own creation always means a lot more to you than anything else, even if (in my case) it happens to be botched and a tad buggy.

I didn't like ETC at all, there wasn't really much story or cohesion. I dind't try etc2.
• RhoadsToNowhereRhoadsToNowhere i r 8 Join Date: 2002-01-24 Member: 33Members
A friend of mine tried ETC. He didn't get terribly far, because he kept meeting a scientist and talking to him, but the scientist went *inside* him when he tried to follow along. He then became stuck and couldn't progress any farther. I'd say this happened at least 3 times, needless to say my friend didn't have much of a high opinion of ETC.

Argh! Go play etc2 now! It's hilarious!
"Use the force Gordon! Use the force! Err... and maby a gun too..."

Poke646 is a single player modification. It was all the rage a few months back, but you should be able to find it somewhere buried in the PHL mod of the week page somewhere.

DOD 2.1 !! is the best mod ive ever played

CS is a good one

SI is good

Opra is the second colest mod ive played it all matrixish
• richard_of_richardlandrichard_of_richardland Join Date: 2002-05-29 Member: 687Members
ETC stood for "earthquake test centre" but it has nothing to do with the mod because DaveJ scrapped his original storyline apparently.

also...

Jailbreak - 7; Good mod, though would be better on a more fun/balanced deathmatch base than the HL deathmatch which is poor enough to make this game feel lacking.
