<div class="IPBDescription">and the HL1 source</div> I came across <a href='http://cgi.riblet.plus.com/' target='_blank'>this petition</a>, trying to encourage Valve to port HL2 to Linux, and also to release the source for the original Half Life.

    What does half-life 2 use? DirectX or OpenGL?

    If it's DirectX then there's little Valve can do without the WineX guys.

    I'm pretty sure it'll use DirectX not just for graphics (I'm sure there will be an openGL option) but also sound and some other things.

    Well then there's no need, it didn't taken them long to get Half-Life running. A game like Half-Life 2 will get top priority.

    I've signed it anyway <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Now you do know if they release the HL source undetectable cheating will go up in a very big way

    I don't think they should release the source, and I doubt they will with CS, DOD and TFC being as popular as they are, because as Venmoch said cheating will go way up. I would like the see them make more of the engine/code available to modders though. With the limits taken off some parts the flexiblity for mods would go way up. Things like the ragdoll effect thats supposed to be coming in CS:CZ and ways around things like the weapon limits would be great. Who knows, maybe that could help Flay get the Flamethrower working. But full source code access would be a big no no.

    *sigh* not this "open source" petition again... I know the people behind it mean well, but it's just <b>not</b> going to happen based on how many people sign this. If Valve has any plans to release any HL engine source or do anything with Linux, they'll do it when they plan to (if ever) and not because a bunch of random people on the internet typed in fake names and "OMG release source NOW d00dz" (because sadly enough, you know it'll happen). For just that reason alone, online petitions in general are pretty futile anyway - not to get into the other numerous problems with them.

    The last thing I want to see are cheaters with source code.

    It isn't a proper ragdoll effect. Its just animation being used rather cleverly!
