Plaguing gamers since... fps invention
Hello. You may know me or not. I usually go as "Aggelos" or "Scorpianthathovarswithoutflapping" while I play online. Lately I noticed a change. Maybe its for good or not, but it happened. I suddenly realized... I couldnt keep up anymore. My aim was no longer competent or reached my expectations. For some reason grabbing this HUMONGOUS MOUSE (gg Future) was now more of an Herculean Effort to try to aim and track at something than being easy and intuitive. I couldnt turn around and keep aim at the skulk that was rushing at me. I couldnt switch between targets that well, and that I ended up dying in situations I thought easy before.
Its like one day everything seemed to be fine. You felt fine. The next.. you couldnt keep up anymore with the better players.. You realized your aim couldnt match theirs.. that you couldnt turn fast enough or keep track of those little buggers flying around. Then you died, and realized there wasnt a damned thing about it that you could do.
So I ask you. Has this happened to you? Have you found a fix to this sympthom? Feel free to share your thoughts and oppinions. To me, Aim is perhaps the most important factor in a fps player. Without it, all the skills that are important become locked to you. Seeing that I lost it, I seem very confused on what to do. If any of you know any programs that maybe can fix sensitivity, or found ways or other mice that seemed good for the job, feel MORE than free to share.

then i changed my sensitivity to 2.5 and my resolution to 800x600, then i could kill more.
Maybe change ur res and sensitivity and u might be teh win!
doesn't mean you have to come on the forum & cry about it....

here here!
I suffer from the same thing.... Trying to get that recticile to move over the "elite" skulks feels like shoving around an ACME Anvil from the Wile. Coyote cartoons...
Gosh I want an optical
Waaaahhh!
I have these every month, sometimes they crop up on match days...highly irritating
but, just a few quick pointers:
- Lifting your mouse is BAD for NS, or any other game that has enemies coming at u from all sides.
- Your sensitivity has to be high enough so u can make a 180' turn easily without lifting your mouse.
- Your sensitivity has to be LOW enough so u can aim across a decently long hallway, and make precise movements without overaiming.
- If u have trouble finding a mid-point between point 2 and 3, adjust your mouse acceleration rate. (I turned mine off completely with 2 HL target commandlines, but it's purely preference).
- Use your wrist as pivot to do precise shots (think pistol), lift your wrist and use the lower part of your arm as pivot when u need to.
- Don't GRAB your mouse like it's the most precious thing in the world, just wrap your fingers around it tight enough that u can control it, don't squeeze your mouse when you try to aim.
- Try to use your fingers to move your mouse, not your palm, your fingers are MUCH more precise than your palm.
- Your index finger goes on the left button, your middle finger goes on the right, I've seen people who put their middle button on the wheel and try to control the left, right, and wheel all at the same time. It's a good idea in theory, but with only your pinky on the right side of your mouse, you lose the much needed control.
- Practice using the center of your screen to aim, don't put your eyes on the crosshair, u need to keep your eyes on the enemy, and let your hand handle the aiming, not your eyes. (I know, that sounds a bit confusing)
PS: Getting an optical mouse does help a lot. So does a higher FPS, and lower ping. But not having any of those does not mean you can't aim good.
I hope that helped u at least a little bit

i have 400 and above ping usually on ns and 80 fps

It seems like there are alot of stories about this sort of thing in sports, but really its bound to happen in any competitive environment.
I think the key thing to remember is, even if it SEEMS like you are doing everything the same as you always have, something is different, or else why would you be doing badly?
mouse troubles are easiest to figure out, open it up and make sure theres no buildup on the wheel, etc etc.
overthinking the game is another cause for bad streaks , it is very easy to make some mental change in how you play and not realize it. Recently I had a day where I couldn't shoot to hit the broad side of a cargo bay, everything I did went bad. So I took a break for a while, and ended up staying up late and coming back to play. I was over tired so I didn't really think about what I was doing or worry about the enemy getting me, and I ended up slaughtering everything in sight.
Keep your sugar levels in blood high enough. So eat lunch and snacks when you need to. Drink a lot to keep your system running.
Do not play when tired, unless you want to be killed. Reactions tend to slow down.
Another thing is peace of mind.
I have days when I feel like a god. I can kill any skulks coming at me. No bullets misses targets (well hardly any). Then again there are day when I feel like a rat in a maze and I die all the time.
Of course anger is unhelpful. I forget to aim front of skulks or I am running behind marines. Also relaxed tactics tend to go down to the drain when aggression comes around.
Skulks should skulk and sneak from behind (above) and marines should keep distance between himself and enemy.
Third factor is your opponents.
Some servers have good players and others have newbies. To boost up your ego go to newbie pubs. At daytime kids come from school and they think that rambo tactics rule.
The nick "Scorpianthathovarswithoutflapping" will NOT fit.
Nice try though. Not.
As for mouse sensitivity, don't listen to these guys; I play with a "3.000000" and I do just fine, but I prefer precision to speed.
I hold it like this: Wrist resting on mousepad, three fingers on the mousebuttons and scrollwheel. Thumb and pinky on the sides of the mouse. Unless I have to lift the mouse to reposition it, I never lift my wrist from the mousepad. My arm practically never moves, and is supported by my wrist. My arm never aches, no matter how long I'm playing. I find I can use this method with practically all mice (even the iMac mouse that people complained so much about).
Personally, sometimes I'm just not really into a game, and when I lose interest, I just do stupid things. Try not to overplay and every now and again play as comm or gorge to give yourself a break.
PCW's annoy me most, as I tend to try irrecoverable new tactics out that frequently go wrong, and once they do, we are obliged to play out the rest of an already lost match. In these cases I play at my worst. As all I want to do is start over and try something new.
Aim, bite and movement skills can be practiced well enough on pubs imo.
As for Sens - I use 3.4 as alien and 2.2 as marine.
I will try all your ideas when I can. Again, thanks guys. Feel free to post more.

"JOinNn uSSssSS..."
*throws you a sword*
"Comon, hack my head off, you know you want to...."
RPG's might be what you need. That and an Optical mouse! I switched and never looked back! Cleaning all the crap from a track ball mouse got very tiresome. Actually I used it as an excuse for when I sucked! Can't use it as an excuse anymore
Also, jack up the sensitivity and see if you can control the new capability. If you can wield the power, it'll be a massacre
I haven't really noticed anything like this happening to me, my optical mouse works great most of the time, and aiming isn't too hard, probably your hardware/hacks or lack thereof.
take me for example. i am an UNBELIEVABLY erratic player.
some days i will walk into a room with 5 skulks and own them all with an LMG without taking a hit or even reloading. after i reload and walk into the next room, a skulk runs right at me (clear shot for me) and kills me.
optical mouse > *
make sure mouse surface is always clean
i personally use high sensitivity and high mouse accel
stay calm, focused, remove external distractions, etc
and dont forget to play 24/7 whatever they say about fatigue is a COMPLETE AND UTTER LIE COMPARED TO ALL THAT PRACTICE YOU WILL GET

Heh. That may be right too. The stress over the math test I *just* finished and the deal about me liking a friends girlfriend may be it.
if you still feel bad about your aim you could make yourself think highly of yourself by playing some FPS games on the game consoles after you smash yourself in the head a few times with a mallet so you forget that all those games on consoles have auto-aim permanently on coz their controllers are too crap.
