Tips For Playing Ns On Low End Machines

Maybe youll learn something new
I myself have a low end machine that i play NS on, and i use a few tweaks and whatnot to help me get by (i'm 56k too).
It's best we start off with the basics:
Make sure your running Natural Selection in 640x800 mode in OpenGL, because not only does Natural Selection not support software (trust me, you wont be able to do anything usefull in software mode, including using the right click menu), but that resolution is the most stable (it says that right in the resolution menu). I'd also advise knocking down your screen size a notch in video options (it helps MY fps, try it for yourself).
In advanced customization, be sure to have high poly models off (imho, the high polies dont look much better than low), and uncheck the options for hints and better looking particles (youll hardly notice the difference). If you have net_graph 3 (console command that lets you view your fps and ping, along with your choke), view your fps then turn it off, because net_graph does cause a slight hinderance in fps. The option to turn off dynamic lighting is coming in 1.1, and you can certainly trust me when i say that if you have a low end machine, you'll want that off.
Also in advanced customization, change your multiplayer decal limit from 300 to 0 (yes this means you cant see others sprays or bullet holes, but it really does help your fps out big time as the match progresses).
Slighty More Advanced Stuff:
In the DOD forums i picked up a little trick, and that's to add -noipx, -nojoy, and -heapsize 100000 in your shortcut to ns (-heapsize 100000 is for 128 RAM, and it tells your comp to use more memory to play ns. If you have less than 128 ram you probably will have trouble playing ns, it's probably not the mod for you.) While your there, be sure -console is in your shortcut, because besides having a ton of NS uses, you will want it for the next part.
Even slighty more advanced stuff to use in your console:
http://half-life.gamehelp.com/console/tweaks.html has a ton of tweaks you can mess around with in your console which can improve your fps, and even your lag (if you lag like me, heh). Also be sure to pay a visit to tweak3d.net, where you can read guides on half life optimization and even use a simple autoexec.cfg maker they have online that will run usefull tweaking commands everytime you play NS, automatically.
I don't know if this has been posted already, but honestly i havent seen it on the NS forums, so if it has sorry. if this HASNT been posted already and anyone has somehting they know that will help us low end people play NS better, do me a favor and reply with it in this thread.
