Ns_veil -- 2 additional screens

Yep. yay for screens.
Here's a quick little follow-up to the 2 shots on the Ready Room. This shot shows the balcony visible to the right of the first shot on the RR, and the second is more of a close-up of the overlook on this upper level. I realize the two are fairly similar shots, but I felt like giving a close-up of that upper area anyway -- forgive me if they're too much alike.

I think part of it's the map, too -- it's still in the very early stages, so lighting has not been finalized. There should be plenty of accent lighting in later builds to help keep things more visible.

I like it, very nice. Even if it is in the early planning stages.

Actually, it's not in the planning stages, per se... heh... 4 pages of to-scale sketching on graph paper would say otherwise. I gotta get that scanned and posted here...

But I want to see more

And by the way, the brightness is excellent, if anything it needs a little more contrast! Make a page for your screenshots so that they are shown on a large black background, and people will stop whining.

Killer man. I love the vertical almost gothic feel you have here.

Sorry you've been having familial problems recently, I hope you guys work it out. It sounds like your mom got a clear head and a heart of gold.

These are still a similar area, so forgive me if you don't really want to see these, but here's a little bit more of the overlook area I had shots of before:

That looks quite awesome, but the hallway in the first of those 2 new pics lacks a lot of detail.
  • GreedoGreedo Bounty Hunter Join Date: 2002-01-24 Member: 37Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
In that hallway, I'm getting the feeling that those lighting recesses are just a bit "wrong." Perhaps its the texturing on the side or the extreme contrast, but I think that area could use some work. And I don't know, using the same texture on the floor and the ceiling doesn't really seem "right." Heh.

And we always want to see new shots.

Yer nice, I realy like the raised area over looking the coridors. But perhaps there could be a little more internal structure? I dont know much but I like to break rooms up with bulk heads and stuff. Also its a little straight - maybe more curves

I agree with blahman, the first hallway could use some work.
But great lighting is the 2ed pic. keep it up

    Nice work KFS.

I like the areas of total darkness, it allows for lots of areas where bob and his chums could hide + ambush but also gives the place a really mammoth feeling because you can’t see the full extent of any of the paths or walls etc. This is particularly true for the very first screenshot.
  • KungFuSquirrelKungFuSquirrel Basher of Muttons Join Date: 2002-01-26 Member: 103Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
I agree that the corridor could use some work, and detailing will definitely come along -- if you notice, the polycount in there is at 227 right now -- leaves me plenty of room to fill in more in later work. Polys are a lot lower there than I thought they would be, I'm quite happy with that.

Mu - you like your curves, don't you?

Greedo - I've been looking at some other texture options for the ceiling on that overlook, and so far I haven't found anything that works as well...

Oh, and just to mention... of the two green panels, the first one on the left will be flickering in-game.

    Thanks for the feedback.

I think it looks great. Interesting desing, if even lacking detail at the moment
One suggestion. Change those HL light textures. Make a better one in 10 seconds or whatever, just get rid of them.

Well, since this topic came back from the dead all of a sudden, I'll mention real quick that I've made a fair amount of progress in the areas depicted thus far, adding some more color and... ahh... can't think of a good word... We'll just leave it at color, I guess... to the scene. I hope to have this side of the map extended all the way to the hive area by the end of this week if all goes well. I'll post some new shots here when I get that accomplished, but for now I've got 3 (smaller) updated shots of the area(s) shown in this topic posted on my site.

Are the shots at the beginning of the post the updated ones? Regardless, they look really great. Like neag mentioned, your use of the red nos_wall1 texture is really inspiring. Great work!

Oh, crap, I forgot to clarify...

Those updated shots are on my site; I forgot to mention that. My bad.

Ahh.. I see. From what I can make out on the shots they look great! I am really fond of your architectural stlye there. I like the new red accents as well. (I think those are new. Heh )

Be sure to check the infested shot at the Ready Room -- to explain the sudden change from normal to heavily infested (soon to be more heavily, hehe...), do note the doorway... I hope to have a func_weldable or some other temporary barrier that would have initially held the alien infestation up, whereas other areas will have a more gradual transition. I hope.

Arg, now my newer post with the updated screens got bumped way back... Any possibility of people being able to lock their own posts when they post a newer update? And if that's not possible, please lock or delete this one.
