Can't Use Console

<div class="IPBDescription">Not as newbish as you think - I hope</div> Hey all.

My problem is that I can't use my console. I can open the console, and type stuff in, but the commands I put in don't actually do anything. There's no echo - like if I type rate, it doesn't say "rate 6000" back or whatever. I use -console, console 1.0 in config and so forth. I have Windows 98 right now, but when I used to play NS on XP, I had no problems with the console.

Ideas?

My guess is try loading NS from the "Custom Game" menu and not the desktop shortcut. There are a lot of things that go wrong because of the messed up shortcut.

If you want to fix the desktop shortcut, right click it, go to properties and change the "Starts In" field to your halflife directory.

umm, you can't play if you try to use the desktop short cut

ok, you might wana make sure that this is the exact thing you have in your cfg

    bind "`" "console 1.0; toggleconsole"
    bind "~" "console 1.0; toggleconsole"

why -dev? All it does is give you all kinds of info that you don't use unless you are mapping.
