In regards to "everyone was new once" thing, that's not necessarily true... Look at Flayra, he was never new to the game... he made the whole damn thing...

Anyway, I do think that people are stubborn jackasses sometimes... though a newb should read the manual beforehand.

I do agree, though, that being new (or n00) does not excuse ignorance.. Read the damn manual, and if you can't understand it because you don't speak english, then... well... you're screwed... I think it's good that newbies are intimidated when first playing... That way, they'll ask before doing something stupid, like I see all to often...

    My suggestion would be this:

Please stop using the term n00b or nub. You may not intend for them to be offensive but they are often perceived as such. Instead try to use the term new player or simply not use the term at all. Player should suffice.

It can really turn someone off from the game if they are trying but people continue to criticize them.

n00b and nub are generaly reserved for people who are not new to the game but do stupid things like building 2 TF's in main base before getting an armoury or relocating to some remopte part fo the map and turret-farming or maybe even go gorge and spend all their res on sensory chambers (1.04) instead of getting res nodes and hives.

I agree that they are generally reserved for people who do stupid things, but I really don't feel that they are conducive to the overall friendliness of Natural Selection.

n00b and nub are derisive in their very nature and are akin to calling someone a moron. Wouldn't it be more productive to tell them what they did wrong and how to fix it?

Speaking as a just-graduated NS noob

I only really play on the Oz Gamearena servers, and the players there are 90% cool with noobs.

Without their help, i wouldn't be playing NS today.

I meant people who think they know best with their stupid tactics or are just deliberately being annoying.

its pretty funny when people look up the word "n00b" in the dictionary and its not there

Well it's obvious you guys haven't played ns in the last five minutes :P Go on a server and if you find one with a couple noobs on it, see how many are open to polite criticism...probably one if you're lucky. I swear it's like CS the so-called "new people" are actually a couple of frustrated 11 year olds taking out their anger on you by tking everyone on your team, except when manifested in NS form it usually turns out as building sensory first with no explanation or gathering 79 resources and taking on the whole marine team at their main base. I'm pretty sure this is the mentality we're faced with, hell most noobs don't even talk back, which can only be because they're **** or they don't know how to use the 'y' button to say something. Either way, I don't want them.

I'm glad that there are efforts to keep the forums nice and decent. It's no fun to browse and read crap. Keep up the great work with NS in all its aspects!

Read the manual? lol Most people don't read the manual for games they spent 50 bucks on.

Most people that act like an **** towards a new player are upset that they are not better or dont know the maps. Not that they don't know how to play.

To new players: put a [NEWB] tag after your name, this will players will know what to expect if you don't know the maps, and die very easily.

As for knowing the maps, anyone who disses a player for not knowing the maps should SUYF(although I've never seen anyone having a problem with another player not knowing the maps). The NS maps are confusing, and take alot of playtime to know by heart. Even after lots of playtime, you'll have visual memory, but it'll take longer to be able to think by location name.
