    The short answer is: They were designed with this card in mind, whereas half-life was designed 4 years before that card was even theorized. Basically, HL does not make as good use of better hardware as a newer game.

    On the other hand, those games will not even run (much less run well) on older video cards that HL uses very well... time marches on.
