Do unto others as you would have them do unto you(certain extent or whatnot),treat others the way you would want to be treated.
I do all kinds of stuff sometimes if I'm a marine I'll even help the enemy (alien) like if they ask how do I drop an o tower whatnot. Some people have NO patience whatsoever for these kind of people.I hold nothing back I help them to the best of my abilities, the best way I can etc.
Alot of times I've heard "Why should I have respect for someone who has no respect for me?" that is true in alot of cases but as the admins say we need to cleanup ourselves or whatnot before we have our eyes plucked out and skulldone lol.I chose skulldone for u know what
Have a nice day all and I'll be looking very forward to send ya packing in NS v1.1 hehe , got more strategies than probably most of the vets n pt's do

For some reason, this is a hard concept for people to learn, but it is all too true. If we all followed this golden rule, not just in NS but in life, the world would be a utopia. I think it is something we should all hope to achieve. Bravo CobraChaos!
RIGHT! Ok marines, I'll only use melee attacks, and remember that it's unfair to use ranged attacks because I can't return the favour. You'd be forcing me to be impolite, and you don't want that, do ya?
Humans by nature are egocentric creatures which means we live for and of ourselves, despite our years of evolution we still have instinctual drives to survive, (IE rubenesq women being preferred over classically beautiful women because of a subconscious reasoning that they make better mothers) we still respond primarily to our own impulses, if we are hungry we eat, if we are tired we sleep, if something is causing us pain it takes priority over everything else until we alleviate it. Humans are selfish creatures, and not in the sense that we are greedy, but that we are of ourselves and completely individual. Even the wording of the saying "Do unto others as you would have them do onto you" has egocentric undertones because you are treating others civilly because you understand in turn you will be treated civil so in the end it's still selfish reasoning.
But hey, it's only a game so chill, blokey.

oh how true.... i must be hte most immoral person on this bored some of you dont hurt evolving kharra some dont shoot gorges.... i shoot whatever moves!
It's a shame such a thing has to be mentioned and is not a rule as such.
It basically adds to MonsE's post. Let's all be nice and friendly, cuz when we need to take out our anger on someone, let's just use DOOManiac
Yet another person who has yet to learn the basics of life.
As you move through life my flaming friend, one of the most important things you will ever learn is the art of dealing with PEOPLE.
Its not about justice, its not about what they did to you, its not about what they should have done. This is blame - and its freakin useless. Its about what can be done NOW to achieve the best possible outcome for all concerned.
Think about it - when you make a mistake or do something stupid, what do you want? You want someone to come and tell you that your stupid and you made a mistake, or you want them to suggest what can now be done to make things better.
If I explain things to a newb who hasnt read the manual - not only can I help encourage another joiner of the NS community, I havent discouraged him at all. Telling him to get lost and read the manual is hardly encouragement - and is certainly NOT the best thing for all concerned.
Pointing out that he is disrespectful for not reading the manual is fruitless. Its may be true, it may be justified, but it achieves nothing positive.
BTW - lol at yet another "Theory for Everything" evolutionairy explaination. Ever wonder why evolution can explain everything? Its cause its a bloody robust theory - you can make it explain ANYTHING you want in just about any way you want.
I shoot them praying that it DOES contain an onos!

i think that if they were stupid enough to evolve in an open space they deserve to get shot for assuming they wont. if they evolve in a hiding place then you deserve to shoot them as a reward for finding them
If everyone who played NS obeyed this rule then there would probably be no fights at all :-/ The problem is that it is usually hard to see when you are treating someone badly - or you think its justified (OMG he didnt drop me HMG!!11!!two). Even servers like CoFR, where I have played many games, do still get these people who loose their temper within seconds. Not to mention names - but I think that many people out there come not to play NS games, but to get into agruements and cuase trouble. :-/ !

yea only thing is though that human instinct is to survive. ANd trust me the marines do better when they work together instead of self feeding themeselves in piecemeal to get slaugtered at where ever that place is that rambos to.
Do onto others, as you would want done onto you.
Would you want to kill all aliens without a fight? Some would say yes, but hopefully most people go to the game in order to play it. I wouldn't want a marine to sit there and take it, nor would I want to sit there and take it if I were the marine. If I were following the golden rule, I would only give them the courtesy I would expect. Note that if you are playing a game and the point is to kill each other, not doing that isn't what the other side would want (at least not for most people).
I suppose we could all spawn camp and uneven the teams as greatly as possible to increase the odds of winning. Why don't we do that? I'd like to think it is because we have a shred of courtesy. Those that don't understand this concept might as well play retarded children in a game of chess. You'll win, but it's a hollow victory all the same. The only good game are the games when both sides had a decent chance of winning.

Wow. What an absolutely ***ty world view!
Wow... I mean, try to imagine what that would be like... To actually live in a world where everyone around you is only out for themselves, 100% selfish, 100% of the time! OMG! That'd be like being in hell... or being a young teenager. If you honestly walk around thinking that, then your lives must really suck!
Thank the powers that be that you only have a screwed up viewpoint. From my guess, you've never had children.
Human beings are magnificently altruistic creatures. Every day in the news, there's stories of people giving deeply, their personal resources, and sometimes even their lives to help others. And it's not even just to help other humans either!
Honestly, don't sweat it. Someday you'll fall in real love, and have someone really love you back unconditionally, and then your whole outlook will change... and when you have kids.... wow.
As for egg shooting, the "do unto others" rule applys in my situation. Whenever a 'rine has found me in an egg, they've always knifed/shot me to death. So I always knife/shoot eggs I find to death as well in the hopes that they will knife/shoot an egg, etc. etc. Until finally the first person that ever killed me as an egg is killed in their egg.
err ... there is a reason for evolving to take time, you are risking being shot without being able to defend one self.

You do live in that world and the fact is people make a conscious effort to be kind and it doesn't come naturally.
I don't see what in my post suggested that it is my view of the world. It was an objective post about human nature that you subjected to your own ideas and assumed that I meant people can't over come natural behavior.
The fact is society isn't what makes selfish it's what makes us caring and civilized. Decorum is something taught to people and we aren't born with manners.
I for one go out of my way to help people and am a kind person. I do this out of personal beliefs and I'd be lying if I said I always felt like doing it. Being caring and nice isn't something I had an innate urge to do, It's something I learned to do.

My advice:
Go to college.
Take a few semesters anthropology.
Take a couple of modern psychology.
Then post on the interweb about your views on human nature.
You're more in world of Freud and Huxley than what contemporary discoveries (ala people like deWaal) have pointed out.
Edit: my advice to me is to learn how to type.
