<div class="IPBDescription">(that includes this one too)</div>The following was taken from <a href="http://www.natural-selection.org/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=1;t=2720;hl=commander" target="_blank">here.</a>

<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td><b>Quote</b> </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE"><!--QuoteEBegin-->anyhoo about being the commander. is it like being the VIP in CS or such as in u choose if u want to be the commander. also can the commander be voted out if theyre irresponsible or dont do jack ####?<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

This person was then told to read the faq, and the topic was closed.

Well, I've read the faq several times, and it doesn't mention anything about how the commander is chosen.

I suppose I should do my research right?  <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

    anyone can be the commander but only 1 at a time as soon as a commander is beeing lame the team can vote to kick him off the Command console. Hopefully he will be "banned" from the console for the several minutes until somebody else can take over.

    P.s : welcome to the community read all the faq's and if you have a question search if the topic is already discussed be4 posting a new one.

    The commander isn't choosen, he is just the first person who get to the command-center/console and hits enter.
    Although he can be voted out of his role as far as i know. How this voting works, I don't know...

    Thanks.

    That wasn't so hard was it?  <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

    Marine team players who want to command head to the command console enity in-game, then USE the console to enter it and become the marine commander.  Only 1 marine can command at a time.

    [edit] doh! already answered [/edit]

    Nope, but the mentioned post was a little bit extrem and red text is never god. I think to remeber that at least the "can i kick the commander"question is in one of the FAQs. And about the other things, well, to old forummembers like the moderators it seems very clear but I think your're right that that was a bit unfair...

    [Edit- Gah! I take a couple minutes to respond to an unanswered post, and there's a couple hundred replies by the time I'm done! Heh, take this for what it's worth then. <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo--> ]

    Welcome, pheonix`ignition.

    The question was answered in the post there, but I'm assuming you want an explanation for the reaction? Well, heh.. it's probably just the fact that the information asked is really well known among a lot of us, and those who answered probably assumed the info was in the FAQ because of this. I'm not going to check all the various FAQs around here, but I'm guessing maybe it wasn't in there. Did you try all of them, such as the forum faq, the main page faq, the readyroom.org faq, etc? At any rate, if it's not in there I'm sure it was an honest mistake, and absolutely no harm or hostility was intended. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

    For the record though, there is a building type thing called the "commander console", and when one of the marine players "uses" the console, he suddenly takes the role of the commander with an overhead view and all. Only one person may "enter" the console at a time, and in all my time playtesting, I've yet to see a fight over the position. Then again, I'm not very observant. <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

    Hope that helped.

    Heh, yeah what the commander does is crystal clear, it was just how he was chosen that was the problem.

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td><b>Quote</b> </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE"><!--QuoteEBegin-->Did you try all of them, such as the forum faq, the main page faq, the readyroom.org faq, etc?<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    I'm lazy so I'll just pretend its in one of em somewhere.

    Oh wait, that was the problem to begin with. Nevermind.  <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

    Thanks for the welcome though.

    And if a commander is being particularly naughty (or is just afk for that matter) the marines can vote him out. So the first person to get to the console is the commander, but not necessarily the only person to command during that game. Also, if the command console is destroyed and gets rebuilt, someone has to go up an hit "use" to enter it again, it doesn't just revive the old commander.

    Sorry we've been a bit draconian as of late, regarding the "read the FAQ and do research before asking a question" bit.  We're changing our ways.  Now we answer the question and happily mention that even more info can be found in the FAQ. :)

    I dunno, Im relatively new to this forum and I researched on the sites and read all the FAQ's before I posted so I didnt need to ask that question. I definitely knew the answer without having someone else having to ask for me.
    Still, those who say read the faq should still post an answer however stupid the question is... unless its how do you set a detpack in which case redirect them.

    well part of is ( i think ) that we all have read posts aroudn teh forums for a long time and we've all read and re-read the FAQs (or well some of the more dedicated ppl to this mod) and in my opinion sometimes they get mixed up about wut is and wut isnt in the FAQs. They did get the infromation from reading, but it wasnt directly in the FAQs. Also you may wanna read FAQs at other sites, such as readyroom

    Yep, although it isn't as up to date as when i joined, the Ready Room FAQ is still very useful in figuring out what NS is about.
