    yes, the sys specs state this I believe. NS does NOT support softwae mode.

    Flay was hopping to be able to run in software mode (thats why the increased FoV was taken out for 1.0 and will return in 1.1). after the release they realized their goof (no one bother to check it out b/c the PTs all ran in other modes I tihnk).

    There also tend to be issues with D3D (glitches)

    I also noticed that D3D lowered my fps... that might have been because I had just updated openGL... but I noticed it anyway..

    Not really a goof, and it was of course checked out extensively.

    We knew software mode did not work and stated so on many occasions prior shortly to release that it would not be supported until we could get some support from VALVe (which never occured). The problem is inherent to the HL engine not wanting to support some NS-related features). We hoped to get it working in 1.1, but it turned out to be impossible. Hence why FOV is back in like it was in pre-1.0 testing.
