Annoying...
I can play games fine..except for lan games..but thats related to this
If I alt-tab, or press escape to go to a menu (like for settings) and go back to my game.. it is all messed up.. the audio breaks up.. the video skips.. I move really slow
I don't understand it..
I think this all started when I switched to openGL from d3d

System:
WinXP home
256mb ram
intel integrated video
intel integrated audio
2.0ghz processor
60gb hd

I updated the video drivers a week ago.. but this problem happened before that too
Also, when I start a lan game the multiplayer menu window still stays up.. I can't click on it, but it is still there and blocks a good part of the game..

Okay..
It lowers my fps from 85 to 15!!!!!!
I figured out how to start lan games from the console.. so I can play like that

    K...

    1. D3D versus OpenGl in any Half-Life game or mod - Always use opengl, never D3D, if at all possible. There is no good reason to do otherwise unless your video card is so old that it can't support it.

    2. ALT-TAB in in any Half-Life game or mod - It will always do this. If you come back into the game and hit EXC, then resume play, it usually fixes itself. The real answer is to not use Alt-Tab while playing.

    3. The multiplayer menu issue is an Nvidia card + Half-Life issue in any Half-Life game or mod. To get around this you can again hit ESC, then resume and it will be gone. You can also remove the line '-console' from your shortcut that you use to start your game and it will not happen when you start a LAN game.

    Hopefully that answers everything

But if I press esc, it drops my fps down to 15 for some reason, I've found I can just go to the console from the ns menu, and type map <whatever> to start a game.. Really I just want to be able to press esc and go back and play at my usual fps (85, not 15)

Valve is supposed to be fixing that sound problem in the next patch, if it ever comes out. As for the pressing esc problem, listen to MonsE and try turning off -console. I don't know why your fps would drop when you hit esc though, never heard of that one before.

Okay I removed -console from the shortcut.. it still dropped my fps
Could it be refreshlock? Or WinKeyKill (Disables windows keys)? I have no problems with those programs anywhere else

Have you tried disabling these products? You're the man on the ground here, we can only react to you.
