The beginning
I would make the character a security gaurd. A member of a team i made up called the Mining Operations Security TEam, or, MOST.
THE BEGINNING
Everything was dark again. But the, the sounds began as they always did. Everytime he shut his eyes and every time he dreamt a dream, he could hear the sounds.
There was screaming the clang of shoes pounding against metal walkways. Running feet. Running from another sound... a clicking. The clicks were the worst part of the dream, because it always followed the terror. He could not imagine why the clicks caused so much pain and so much chaos.
The darkness exploded into white, and then through the whiteness, came the image of the ceiling of his room. The sounds faded, overcome by the nagging buzz of his alarm clock. Numbly, he fumbled with the device until the whining ceased.
He picked himself up from his bed, a tangle of red bed sheets on a lumpy mattress, and shook the dream from his head. His room reminded him of a sardine can, small and metal, without any window. His closet hung open as it always did, because he never bothered to close it. The two outfits he owned hung inside. His uniform lay where he'd left it last night, slung over the back of his computer chair.
There was a computer desk that held his laptop and a cup of old coffee. The screen was blinking insistently. There was a message for him.
---------------
I think this intro leaves plenty of room for credits/information concerning the main character and would intrigue the player with the darkness and the disturbing sounds.
Tell me what you think!

Agreed. GJ.

The hangars will be closed today because they need to be inspected. Anything out of the ordinary must be reported immediately, but not handled in any way. Report all areas of interest and await further instruction.
He sighed, and pulled his uniform over his head and walked through the doorway and into the dormitory hall. The corridors were quiet as always, since it was early.
"Tom?" came a friendly voice. He turned to his left, seeing a member of the medical staff approaching. "Rachael wanted to talk to you before you go to the armory to gear up. I think she likes you. She's in the medical wing, by the way."
The wall directly in front of Tom had a sign with two arrows pointing in opposite directions. One was labled
'Medical wing" and the other, "Armory". He turned towards the medical wing.
