Star Wars Galaxies

Sooo, anyone bought it?
Just wondering if anyone's signed up to Star Wars Galaxies yet (since it was released on the 26th).

I've seen there's been some 5,500 tech support / bug questions already submitted and according to a beta tester friend of mine, the game shouldn't have been released for at LEAST a month after more intense testing.

So, is it a waste of money or is it actually that good. I'm still debating whether to buy it whenever it finally gets released in England.

I'm not buying it 'till I've upgraded my computer, which might be a bit. In the meantime, I get to watch the game steadily improve, as most MMORPGS do.

It seems to me that when it comes to MMORPGs they're more willing to let it get released as a half-arsed job and then update in the future. If this was done with a standard retail game nobody would buy it. What makes them think that just because it's a MMORPG they can sit back and think "ahh buggerit, they expect us to update it in the future, we'll do it then, lets release it as it is for the hell of it".

Who are you kidding? They do it with retail games all the time. It's like EA's motto: "Release it before it's done, because people will buy it anyways."

Look at BF1942. Most people needed a patch before they could even run the game.

Apparently on day of release SWG had a 500mb patch. Sorry, but that's a joke. A small patch (>10mb, say) would be acceptable, but this is just epic.

Now all we need is for EA and SOE to merge into one big craptacular company that pees on the heads of gamers everywhere and steals their wallets.

EA Sports brought us FIFA 2003, which lacked a training mode but was otherwise fine. EA Sports BIG brought us NBA Street 2. Check out GameSpy's review if you don't know that one.
But what I hear about SWG is just awful. Good thing I wasn't interested anyway.

I've been boycotting EA products for a year and a half now.

Shame, you're missing out on some cool basketball action.

About 40-50% of SWG's content was never beta tested.

That should tell you something, eh?
