    Thnx guys.

    Rendering prog = 3DSM 5

    Polys... <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> 3472...

    but thats only cuz i kept usin subdivide 4....but my next model with half 3 times as less polys, and twice the detail. I GUARANTEE!

    optimise that model, that polycount is crazy for the lack of detail it has, and i think itll have a few problems if its to be animated too looking at the way its contructed.

    SkitZ that is so kick ****.

    Try making Wing Zero next (or the other name Gundam 01 not Gundam 0). That is some mighty fine work you have there but watch the episodes again to make sure that you have gotten everything correctly. Not a flame if you take it as one.

    P.S. For those who don't know what series the Epyon is from it's from Gundam Wing. I haven't seen it in a while but I do remember alot of things about it.

    Wow...cool.

    lol...i thought everyone was just gonna say "it sucks" or something....

    The NS forums are a HELL OF A LOT NICER than the ESF Forums <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    optimising a model is easy to do, just look at the distribution of polys over the surface of the cage, why have 4 quads in one place where one will do? you can probably reduce that monster to around 1200 polys if your careful. you gotta watch that subdivision as many people get carried away with it.

    mhm... 3472.... that's A LOT OF POLYS for the HL engine... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    mhm btw... ever thought of using it for a HL?-mod or something like that? <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> the HL?-Engine could handle that... <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    its not gonna be for HL...its gonna be a Stand-Alone game...

    but yeah...way to many polys anyways...
  • blue2kblue2k Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 4025Members
    good effort though considering its your first model, i suggest you try a less ambitious project next until you get used to poly budget restraints. youll probably find it much easier if you do things at your own pace.

    But yeah....it STILL IS A BUNCH OF POLYS...

    Is there an Option in MS3D that lets u..."combine" verticies?

    you know...so I could LOWER the poly count?
  • blue2kblue2k Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 4025Members
    just select two verts and hit ctrl+n which will snap them together and ctrl+w which will weld them together this will reduce your poly count a fair amount if done correctly.

    You didnt by any chance know what you were doing did you? Cuz I just made my first model, and its no where as good as that. I'm about to cry! <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> Oh well, if you knew/could find more than half of the commands and understand what they ment, then youre way ahead of me already. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    lol...

    Well...I started makin an alien-like model...just for practice...but i couldnt get the torso to look right. Cuz of that though...i learned how to use most tools and stuff.

    Thanks for the help....ok..so CTRL+N and CTRL+W eh? ok.

    *EDIT*

    OK..well...I Snapped/Welded as much as I could...and i got about...100 polys less <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> So I decided to redo hands....and whip. Im done redoin hands...(they dont looks NEARLY as good...) and now my polys count is....2766. The whip has about...500 polys..so if i cut that down by a bunch, I think the model will be good <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    its good to see some people listen to advice and use that information to further thier skills, good job m8 i hope you manage to optimise that model like a *****.
  • SkitZoFrenicSkitZoFrenic Join Date: 2003-02-08 Member: 13252Banned
    Well...I got it down to around 2700...but i dont think i can make it ne less.

    The hands look horrible...but...ill try touching up. If i cant, then ill just leave it like this.

    Thank you all for your help
