A multiplayer demo for Tron 2.0 has hit the internet after being included on the cover CD of a print magazine. Extensive efforts to determine whether it was kosher to have posted this have not resulted in any sort of response, but with the list of mirrors rapidly growing, it seems difficult to call it anything but released at this point. The demo of Monolith's upcoming movie follow-up includes a light cycle tutorial level and a pair of MP levels (Conscript's Revenge—also playable solo—and Corrupted Sector). The 161 MB file is available from 3D Downloads, 3D Gamers, Boomtown, GameTab, and Worthplaying.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

can you tell me what ports I need to open up for bittorrent to work properly?
that and I haven't had time to read Slashdot today. Trying to get a 'real job'. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
We happened to think it had extremely cutting edge graphics in 1982. Plus Cindy Morgan, whom we happened to consider very hot to trot...

You kids with your sunnyD and pokemon can SUCK IT!!!
/me runs out of the room in tears...
Personally I prefer the stylistics they chose in Tron over the superman-fights in Matrix... the guy was just a guy, trying to make his way back home.
Plus, nothing in Matrix was as cool as the lightcycles. I STILL want one of those. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

The bad:
The netcode makes the game unplayable on the vast majority of servers.
Lightcycles are so highly dependent on your coordination and timing vs. the opponent's that the game actually tells you "it's only supported over LAN."
Disc fights aren't worth trying over internet on many servers, either. On the first of GameSpy's official servers I tried, everyone in the readyroom was having problems (game wouldn't start for any of us, we were all running/jumping around in our views but saw everyone else as huddling together in the spawn area, and there were dozens of stationary disks of random colors floating in midair). In another server that actually let me play, I couldn't even tell if my discs had been thrown and to where -- most of my wins relied on the opponent's stupidity (jumping into the void) or me luckily shooting out the floor from under him and hoping the lag would be so bad he wouldn't respond by walking elsewhere.
[edit 10 minutes later]Addition: the camera system for lightcycles, as much as I have tried getting used to it, simply isn't as good as that of <a href='http://armagetron.sourceforge.net/' target='_blank'>ArmageTron</a>. Play both games, and you'll see what I mean: ArmageTron has more 3rd person/1st person options, glance buttons, etc. In ArmageTron, I play with 1st person view and use the glance left/right buttons liberally. It gives me a great feeling of speed and makes it a ton of fun to go so close along light trails that you hear your lightcycle sparking against it. In Tron 2.0, I've seen no such glance buttons for 1st person, so 3rd person is practically a must to have any idea of what's happening around you. But there's a problem: if you have it locked to chase cam behind you, you still don't have a good view of what's going on behind/to the sides, and if you have it unlocked, it won't move "with" you as you turn left/right -- you have to do it yourself with the mouse, which just isn't useful. There's no best choice, there's major problems whatever you do.
The good:
The graphics and sound seem to do fairly well at being authentic and an evolution of Tron at the same time. The AI for singleplayer lightcycle racing is better than <a href='http://armagetron.sourceforge.net/' target='_blank'>ArmageTron</a>, the open-source clone I've been playing for quite some time. So are the graphics (<i>much</i> better, actually). They don't have any singleplayer plot-linked levels in the demo, so it does leave you with hope that they'll take advantage of what they've done with it.

you battle out on Bikes, each bike ave a standard laser, but more powerfull weapons can be picked up in the map, it's just basic Deathmatch rules, to win you have to get a certain amount of frags then exit the arena... also the bikes can make a cheezy almost tron like forcefield behind them...
