good idea, i think...
Don't know if this should be here of suggestions and ideas, but i'm puttin it here.
if a mapper makes a "fun map" instead of the prefis ns_, put nsf_ befor e the map.

Example: nsf_Seige_006 (instead of ns_Seige_006)

The f stands for fun!

Do we need that much aparteid?
Wen I get nss_ for serious maps and nsb_ for beta maps and this thread sticky I agree.

Then again we need clear definitions.

A lot of mods have standard naming conventions based on the style of gameplay. I don't really think "funmap" is a good term though. We need another way of separating things, and it should preferably have Flayra's endorsement. This will be helpful when(if) marine vs marine is implemented also.

For the moment at least, I think this could serve as the definition. Does the map seek to promote and extend the atmosphere of NS while retaining the standard gameplay elements? If yes, prefix it with ns.

My only problem with nsf is that it doesn't exactly roll off the tongue the way ns does.

'funmaps' have sometimes reminded me of playgrounds. I don't know if that helps at all.

Good God, may that never happen. (off-topic, lets duke this out somewhere else.)

Hmmm, nsf-prefix? Would I be a mapper, you'd have my support but since I'm a mere gamer I'll guess it's to those mappers around here.

That can't work because there are already fun maps released, some that the creators of are no longer going to work on. You should have thought of this right when NS was released.

funmaps... what isnt fun about serious ns maps like the officials or some of the real kick-**** custom maps? (answering this the 50th time and still got no answer...)

Serious map have much more scare part than fun maps ...and at the moment fun maps don't look as good as serious maps. Then again funmaps always go for new gameplay that serious maps can't offer. So:
funmaps = strange, funny gameplay; most of them made within a week and looking crappy; not as much athmosphere. (my opinion)

Ok this is not a funmap flamewar topic. Post about the prefix's please. If you want a flame war go here http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/in...=ST&f=4&t=36869

Sorry, have I flamed them? I didn't mean to. I am a fan of ns_siege
Back on topic: Why name it ns_... at all? Everyone knows it is for NS. So my suggestion would be to name funmaps fun_... . When the first two good funmaps with this prefix are out I think others quickly adapt it.
Another possibility might be jff for 'just for fun' though I am not very convinced of that one

wait, i just remember someone else define fun maps as maps that are fun to play or were fun to make for the mapper. (to get a more varied view on what they are )

It's not correct to call so called 'fun maps' fun_$mapname - because the seriously constructed maps from dedicated mappers could be construed as 'fun maps' also. A more effective perfix would be one everyone recognises, but no one knows what it means eg fy_$mapname. I dunno what that's meant to mean.
Uh... or something like that but without the CS reference... how about nk_$mapname. Because it's an Ns Killbox. It's also nicer to say than nsf_$whatever

    nm_$mapname - 'no more...'

    ttmnsaa_$WHYBOTHER

(THIS TOPIC MAKES NO SENCE AT ALL)
