I haven't played the first one but, after seening the first movie... The HUD is ridiculously large and isn't nessecary. The Enemy Health Bar is REALLY stupid. And the weapon models are pretty horrendous. But other then that, it looks good.

look good.. shadows are a little two "polarized" as well as the falshlight.. it's either light, or dark in the shadows.. hopefully they will sort that out.

The HUD does seem a bit large for my tastes. I especially dislike when a message is received: the entire screen is covered by the HUD! The enemy life meter is silly.

I much prefer the HUD in the original Deus Ex.

does it sill have the 12 screens when you went into your inventory ? you had a screen for upgrades, screen for pictures, screen for notes, screen for objectives, screen with a map, so many screens

After watching through the Gamespot flick, I suggest you just mute it - following this horrible mags tradition, the comments are 90% useless.
Example: While seeing those laser obstacles, he declares "Deus Ex puts some emphasis on traps." Well, duh...

There are three things most might not know about, so if you don't wish to read spoilers, don't read on.

Killed critters leave radioactive marks on the ground that have to be burned away. Thus the use of the flamethrower.

The player will be able to choose sides - either the 'World Trade Organization', or fundamentalistic terrorists.

There are two scenes when the HUD suddenly changes and the whole screen goes black and white. In the first case, that's because the player managed to take the robot we saw briefly before over - apparently one must not be seen for this to work -; in the second case, the player shoots two camera guided missles.

All other information conveyed within, p.e. that the player can either play as male or female, should be known to everyone who wants to know them.

All in all, pretty impressive. I had feared that DX2 would suffer from the same problem its precessor did (bland texturing), but it looks as if they remedied that. The weapons don't exactely look great, but honestly, I don't care. Seeing my playing style, I won't have to watch them for long, anyway.

i like that many games and future games will use ut2k3 engine, since my voodoo 3 can run that

Erm... WTO isn't the exact name. It's the re-translation of the description the guy gave. Thus the 's. As for Unatco - seeing what Simons did to it, I hardly can imagine it ever seeing light after the happenings in DX.

eh? i never was able to complete the mission where you have to kill anna navarra (whatever her name)
because mine was a rip so the timing in the sequences was very wrong and couldnt complete(missing voices are bad it seems)

MUST you be captured? or can you take that chopper behind them instead?

You do have to be captured. Even if you make it out of the hotel and save your bro, Gunther and Co. are waiting for you at Battery Park. The map is designed so that you have no choice but for Gunther to own you (you can't run away to the chopper). Gunther is also invincible - I found an exploit where if you shoot Gunther before he gets a chance to talk to you, the factions get all screwy and the bots around him start shooting him. He took 5 minutes of fire from four bots before he chased me down - he can't be killed there.

As for the DX2 engine, it uses a heavily modified UT2k3 engine with the physics engine ripped out and replaced with the Havok engine. While not as uber as the HL physics engine, it's still very powerful.

It seems like the Deus ex team have a habit of taking unreal technology and making it look bad. That was some pretty amazingly plain level geometry. With the exception of the dynamically cast shadows (which look bad anyways) it looked like most of it could have been done with the original unreal engine. I'm sure it will be a good game like the first one, but I don't know why they have to make it look so bad. I also really hope your contacts aren't popping their heads up all over the screen every few seconds. Why can't they be nice and up in the corner? I don't think I'm going to be able to take it if I have to listen to guys telling me that a box might be useful. I also can't imagine anything looking cheesier than that multitool effect.

    </rant>

I'm definately going to read a few reviews before I buy it now.

Yeah, you've pretty much summed up what I was feeling when I saw the video, moultano.
