Running Ns In 32bit Mode

Alex_TAlex_T Join Date: 2003-07-02 Member: 17881Members
I just installed NS, but I accidently forgot to check the box to run the game in 32bit mode. Whats the command that you need to enter in the start up patch?

    ypu, thats it.

But as a reminder, the desktop icon is sorta borked (it don't work) so make this change somewhere else <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Thanks guys. Sometimes I am a victim of my insanely fast mouse clicking. So would this be the right info? C:\Sierra\Half-Life\hl.exe -game ns -noipx -nointro -console -32bbp

NO its NOT "-32bbp", its "-32bpp", like bits-per-point(/pixel). Trust me, i tried it, you can see the difference on smoke and such things.

How do you run without a shortcut?

Do you go and select NS from the custom game every single time you play? That sounds incredibly painful...

    <b>There is 4 ways to do that:</b>
    1. Start l Programs l Natural Selection --> and then launch NS
    2. x:\Sierra\Half-life\NS --> and then click the NS.exe from there
    3. Dowload <a href='http://www.udpsoft.com/eye2/index.html' target='_blank'>ASE</a> and launch NS trought that
    4. Fix the desktop shortcut

If he goes the custom game route, he should just add -32bpp to whatever shortcut he *does* start with.

Considering all the times we've been asked about this, I may think about including a config utility with 2.0 that lets you do all these common shortcut monkeying tasks... hmmm... food for thought.

This is how I join the game, I just launch off ASE
What is to cmd to switch over to 32bpp in the consol, or do I need to alter a file in my NS folder?

You can only specify 32-bit via the commandline as far as I know, not through config files. If you are using ASE, it does provide a method (which hopefully someone here will explain, as I am at work and can't look) of setting command-line parameters for your installed games.

    Semantics!

    1) is a shortcut.
    2) doesn't exist. At least, I have no NS.EXE on my system. NS is a mod, and therefore a DLL.
    3) Ok with this one.
    4) is also a shorcut.

He said he doesn't use a shortcut, which I take to mean ANY shorcut.

Would this be right? C:\Sierra\Half-Life\hl.exe -game ns -noipx -nointro -console -32bpp? Is it alright to stick it at the end?
  • MonsieurEvilMonsieurEvil Join Date: 2002-01-22 Member: 4Members, Retired Developer, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
    That will work swell.
  • AsteriskAsterisk Join Date: 2003-02-22 Member: 13835Members, Constellation
