I understand that NS was named 2.0 because basically it's a whole new game; however, what about those that have grown to love the v1 game itself--I love the long houred games.
Will we still be able to run, or will people still run NS v1.04 servers after v2.0 comes out?--That way, we have 2 games to play instead of 1.
Just a thought.....

Running a 1.04 server will ofcourse still be possible, there will be nothing stopping you from doing so. But 2.0 is just THAT good, no one will want to play 1.04 .
Time will tell, yes.
I really like how 1.04 feels, and to change it so much is a little scary to me. Believe it or not, 1.04 was pretty damn well balanced. Things like hive umbra and ultra-cheap turrets/OCs to me seem like it is lessening the amount of strategy and teamwork required. I'm not a playtester so of course I'm no expert, but it seems like they're changing a game I already know and love into something totally different.
I'm sure if its released and I don't like it (there will probably be a few others), I can always find a 1.04 server.
If you define balance as a newbie gorge already deciding you've lost the game....
If you define balance as a TF in spawn = gg....
If you define balance as a single rambo being able to obliterate an entire team in their spawn while the rest of the team comes to finish the hive....
If you define balance as a 2nd hive turning the game into an instant alien win...
If you define balance as a 2 hive lockdown with HA/HMG/GLs horrifically thinking they're "owning" skulks....
...you might be a 1.04 player who is blinded from the truth.
1.04 could once have been balanced... but then people who play games constantly like many of ourselves get better strategies and evolve. Hence JP/HMG, etc... and the phase gate 2 hive lockdown being phased out.
Nobody can surely say 2.0 is going to be balanced. You can say that any errors in balance from 1.04 have definetly been removed. But every game has rules. Rules have changed. And with new rules, it takes a LOT of new ideas to bend and break these rules. While playtesting is doing it's best, in the hands of the masses, we'll finally see how it's going.
Your game you love is not becoming something totally different. There are no new guns, no new aliens, and aside from a few new alien abilities, only new strategies that allow for teams to work together to play the same game you've played before.
Let me say that once you've played the updates and even beta... you don't want to go back.

Maybe I play on a server that enjoys a 50/50 alien to marine win ratio.
Look, all those arguments aren't valid except possibly the JP/HMG rush. The way I deal with that is to go commander and NOT do a JP/HMG rush. Simple yet effective.
Are you trying to tell me that the unskilled team shouldn't lose, and if they lose most of the time its unbalanced? I fail to see your reasoning there. If only one newbie gorges than builds sensory, then yes, but that is pretty much the only exception.
A TF in spawn does not equal a loss. I wonder how you figured that.
If a single rambo can obliterate the entire team, then the aliens deserve to lose. 'Nuff said.
Since when has 2 hive = automatic alien win. I'd say at two hives the aliens chances go up, but I've seen 35/65 Marine/Alien win ration after the hive goes up.
2 Hive lockdowns are boring... yes, but off course its the aliens' job to secure a hive. If they can't, then a slow, painful end is the result.
I don't speak for everyone, but this is my own personal experience. I have been spoiled a bit "community wise" since I play in a community where JP/HMG is taboo and comebacks and lengthy games happen all the time. I'm having a blast with 1.04, so I'm just hoping that 2.0 doesn't change it too much.
they can coesist
and yeah im sure a few people will still have 1.04 running, but probably not for very long.
and you can make the games go a lot quicker, it just takes more teamwork and everyone working towards that end. otherwise games will be longer.

Incidentally, I'm not so sure that they can coexist. Not unless NS 2.0 gets a new name. In CS, people were often lamenting the changes made in the newer versions, saying that 1.0 was for n00bs and 6.1b was for teh skillorz. There were even a few 6.1b servers out there, but you had to install the old version of CS, meaning that you couldn't have the new version. Wouldn't we see the same problem if people wanted to play both NS 1.04 and 2.0?
The 6.1b'ers solved the problem by making their own mod (they either modified CS 6.1b or got the source code, dunno), called cstrike6.1 or something (as opposed to the official mod, called cstrike, these are the same names as the directories in your Half-Life directory). It was identical to CS 6.1b, but had a different name, and could thus be installed alongside a normal CS install. So people could have two mods on their computer, cstrike and cstrike6.1. Hope you followed me so far.
Well, those who loathe 2.0 and don't want to touch it have no problems: Don't upgrade your client, don't upgrade your server, presto! However, those that want to play BOTH 1.04 AND 2.0 will have a problem. This could be solved by re-releasing a version of 1.04 called ns104 or something (as opposed to the normal mod, ns), and you could once again have the two versions installed alongside each other. Shouldn't be TOO hard for Flayra imuo (in my unwitting opinion), and everyone will be happy. Except the admins of 1.04, as they'd have to reinstall their servers.
Silly! How do you think us playtesters play both 2.0 and 1.0 without reinstalling? You just need a folder called ns1.0 and ns2.0 and whichever version you want to play, rename it to ns. Rinse & Repeat.

Edit: Oh yes, one more thing:
2.0 > 1.0. I loved 1.0 as much as you guys did, but please don't be scared just because its different. 2.0 is by far going to be a greater game.
cheers

yep
Anyhoo, personally I can't wait for 2.0. Bring on the change, I say. And prepare to say hello to my l337 f4rm1ing sk1llz!! Hahaha
FATTY POWER
Now I'm subjected to all the other servers out there (*cough* Danster's *cough*), and I finally see the problem
