Why complain?
Once upon amidnight driry as i sat there kinda sleepy i saw this complant "man that game sucks you die in one hit!" or
"man you cant hit any thing in that game when your runing!"
why do you ppl complaine about realizum i mean you get shot your gonna die from 1 or 2 bullets, i know not cool in a game but hay so is any one you shot and when you run yes you can shot but hay you try and bust a guy 200 yards away while runing full speed, if you ask me it adds to a game and if ns was a human vs human game i would want it to realistic to. it adds more stratigy it make you care about geting shot and your more carefullyou make more care-full moves. but anyway thats my thoughts lets hear yours

Realism isn't everyone's cup of tea. A lot of people prefer the more arcadey style of play akin to TFC, FLF, Quake, UT, etc to the more slow-paced 'realism' games. Personally, I love both.

As far as 'realism' goes, I like action-based realism (Action Half-Life, Desert Crisis, Max Payne, etc.) but I personally cannot stand the "tactical" realism games likes CS, Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon, Op Flashpoint, etc.

It all boils down to a matter of personal preference. The thing to remember is just because you don't like a style, doesn't mean it is completely invalid or stupid. i.e. I hate CS's style of play, but I still recognize that many people find it enjoyable, and i respect that. But I still don't play it (or enjoy it).

My main problem with a lot of these die-in-one-shot games is that they take the effect too far. For example, everyone's favourite one-shot-kill weapon, the AWP in CS: should it kill you outright when they shoot you in, say, the foot?

Not very fun, if you ask me.

Heck, they should at least take the opportunity to provide you with an amusing 'hopping on one foot' animation.

As far as I know doesn't kills you the AWP when it hits your feet...
I myself like realizm but some games think that good realizm can compensate bad gameplay. That's wrong!
A good game doesn't need realizm. A bad game doesn't help realizm.

To hell with realism. I find Ricochet more fun then CS (pseudo-realistic damage model) or DoD (semi-reaslistic damage model).

Well, I guess I should say that I'd have fun playing any Half-Life mod. Ever tried Canned Tuna or Rocket Crowbar? :D?

The most fun =I= have had lately was in Hyperpuck. Rocket Crowbar and its ilk are just... stupid. Sure, they're fun the first... twenty seconds? But that's about it!

    Go Fammy!

Yes, Hyperpuck is rather.. is fun the right word for it?. Strange. Its definately VERY strange. But then again it came from my head, so of course it will be.

Realism has always been my cup of tea, along with every other member of my 'group' of friends I tended to play with. RS was the first game I ever played online, and heck I loved it! Then came CO, UO etc, and eventually we moved to CS and HL, but one thing has usually remained constant about most games we play: semi-realism. I personally can't stand having to shoot someone more than 4 times and not having them die. When I hit something, it better go down, you know?

That said, CS wasn't like that, nor was FA, but I still liked both games. The game that finds a perfect blend between the two will be the game I'll love forever.

I think realism serves best as a method of immersion. DoD has to be the best example of this -- you really feel like you're a WW2 soldier protecting your homeland or driving the enemy out, mostly because it's so realistic-looking and feeling. You don't really get as much of this feeling while playing something like HLDM or Doom. However, I see games as a chance to experiment and find ways to produce a fun experience, sometimes blatantly ignoring realistic items like stamina, weapons, and damage. In my opinion, the best games come from a mixture of both realism and unrealism. It's just a matter of how much of each.

I love realistic damage games like Operation Flashpoint and AvP2 (You know what I mean). I hate having to empty a couple of clips into an enemy before he/she/it comes down. I preffer bang-bang, two precise shots and target down, not spray-strafe-jump-spray-jump-strafe. UT is a happy middle ground for a bit of fantisy.

Fam's mod, Mo. Great fun for ~6 players.

Two goals, a puck that rebounds around the arena when shot, players 'sliding' over the ground rather than running and walking, powerups like Tackle, Grav Mine ,and Speed, speedstrips to throw you over to the other side faster, built-in teamplay enhancers (ie, you can't score by yourself, you have to pass the puck at least once)...

Maybe Fam'll let you in a beta session sometime.

Fam's mod. Pretty fun actually. Basically, it's like soccer or hockey. You just run around chasing a puck, and trying to put it in the opposite team's goal for a point. Will lead to some very interesting maps, I figure. I want to see some minigolf stuff myself.
