<div class="IPBDescription">Spreading the word that is ns</div>I recently visited most of the major half-life sites to see an unbiased view of NS. Much to my surprise, the words Natural and Selection didn't even <b><u>appear</b></u> on planet half-life. Not even on the Mods page. It seems like Half-Life center is the only site that acknowledges this mod's existance.

I'm sorry but that isn't nearly enough.

In fact, that is downright <b>INADEQUATE!</b>

Now we can't just show up and say "talk about us!" and expect publicity. We need to GIVE them somthing.

A beavy screenies wouldn't hurt. Suggest an interview with a developer. Or even ([B]GASP!/B]) send them some cold-hard facts or some playtest <u>movies</u>.

These are news sites, if the news comes to them, it's less work and everyone is happy.

Lets all become NS missionaries! (Not pedifile ones mind you)

    Could it be that any news on mods just scrolls off of their front page too quickly to see? Trust me, there have been many PHL exclusives on Natural Selection. The NS PR guy (MonsieurEvil) is top-notch, and doing a fine job of spreading the word.

    Ok, that is acceptable, but why aren't we on the MOD page? That might help. I cant tell you how many lans I have scolled that page looking for somthing new at 2 AM.

    I was under the impression that the mod page was for mods that were released, not mods that are up and coming. I could be wrong though, as I haven't really ever followed PHL that closely. /me shrugs

    I'm jost going to close this before MonsE kills you.  Trust us, he does an excellent job.  You probably wouldn't be here if it wasn't for him.  Either you saw something that he directly sent out to an HL news site, or you got here from one of your friends who saw something he sent out.  The only reason that there hasn't been as many news posts and pr recently is because MonsE also has othwer things he needs to do.  Nearing the final stages, we've already shown off a whole hell of a lot, and I have no doubt that every HL news site in the world will let their readers know when NS is going to be ready to download.

    Not only that (Just reopening really quickly, before closing again) but you can't be on PHL's mod page without being hosted by PHL.

    If you check the <a href="http://www.readyroom.org" target="_blank">ReadyRoom</a>, you'll see that he sent off some PR stuff just two days ago.

    Heh. No killing will happen - it's understandable. The way the newssites work is that you need to check them basically every single day, otherwise we rotate off the page.

    If you <a href="http://www.planethalflife.com/news/search.asp?function=search&search=natural+selection" target="_blank">run a search at PHL</a> you'll see about a year's worth of PR. Also, their list of mods have a requirement of being hosted by PHL. That's why we're not listed.

    We're less interested in getting publicity before the game is out compared to after.  Once the game is out, the PR will get oh so much easier...

    It's still really exciting to get a lot of people here before we release, but it's just not as crucial.  Feel free to spread the word to as many people as you can though...

    Now regardless of what anyone says, this is impossible to estimate. I've been spending my nights trying to line up as many as possible, so we hope to have plenty on all three continents (obviously more in the States, but you know how it goes). I hope that this work combined with the mod's popularity will lead to plenty of servers to go around.

    As for PR-ing,what can YOU do? (you being anybody). Well, you could do what I do. Tell all your friends about it who are into games and HL and stuff. And whenever you join a game, do a little advertising for NS. Ask people "Anyone ever hear of Natural Selection" or "Go to Readyroom.org, cool mod coming out" etc . . I personally would like to see the what is BOB? sprays reintroduced. Explain to people. In every game I join and advertise in, someone ends up asking follow up questions ans usually promises to check it out. If we all do it, NS will grow by leaps and bounds.

    NS has had quite a lot of PR and the Ready room is great.

    I think people are worried this game will get overlooked.. calm down, CS never had massive publicity when it was first released. when the game is out and it rocks (Which i hope it will) then word will get around.
    Also I should be writing an article on it soon for a website so hopefully that will bring in some new punters.

    All my friends pick on me and call me a "NS freak". They pop in every day to see what I have posted and make fun of my average posts per day (about 4). You don't know how many time I hear "Jeaze Nate, your obsessed! You've never played it!"

    Rest assured you're not alone. Many people are waiting, some of them are even waiting patiently for this release. There's nothing wrong with drooling over screenshots, or being part of the community. That will all help you better appreciate the game when you get your hands on it.

    although I don't post here often I have been waiting for NS for ages.
    Can't wait for the release date to be said.. this is always the worst point is when you know it's so nearly complete but you don't know the proper release date so you can countdown the days (Sigh).

    <b>Back to the subject of PR</b>: Will we get gamespy support? A natural-selection room? People going to play counter-strike and the like through gamespy (40,000+) will at least see the room when they enter games. That would give us unbelievable publicity. Also it is just dang convienent if your trying to connect in a server with friends.

    gamespy brings allot of  ppl onto a mod
    but more than 50% of those ppl are lamers/cheators

    Gamespy == Evil

    besides the mod can do easaly without gamespy support

    I don't agree. I know of many gamespy users who do not cheat. I will admit that a majority of them will be twelve, I know. But players are players, they still make Super Mario games.

    I use Gamespy3d.
