Minimap

I wanted to see how my map looked so far from a minimap perspective, so I tried that nifty "buildminimap" command.

The minimap turned out all gray, however. I erased my sky box that is around my map and tried the "buildminimap" command again. The minimap turned out all gray.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by 'the minimap turned out all gray", maybe you could post a screenshot?

You shouldn't have a skybox around your entire level anyway as it will cause to lag and low fps.

have you placed your info_mapinfo? (i think the entity is called like that) In this entity u define the limites of your map for the build mini map command...maybe theres the problem...

The info_mapinfo defines the limits for the commander view, though it may also define the limits of the minimap. In any case the minimap isn't working, if that isn't the problem I'm not sure what it is. Just out of curiousity though, where on the Z axis is the main part of your map?

    - Ah, if you don't have it that's probably the problem then, just define the view height ad view boundaries there and then try it.

The only time there would be exterior clipping planes is when there is a leak in the map. Fixing leaks should always be your first priorty because have a leak will cause other errors to occur.

there shouldn't be any leeks though....there wasn't any errors when i was compiling it.

oh most ppl never do this... if u make ur roof func_seethrough, dont just extend the height of the roof s the comm s inside it and you will see down and be able to build on normal land <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

If he makes his roof a func_seethrough then he'll most definately have a leak because brush-based entities don't block void. That would make the problem worse, not better, because then anything he tried to build would be dropped on the func_seethrough. You shouldn't comment unless you're going to be helpful.

If you don't have a leak and it drops things on the roof then the most probably thing is that there's something else solid blocking it. The ceiling it's self, which is of course made out of worldbrushes, won't block what you're dropping. But anything else that is up by your ceilng but not part of it like a func_wall or a func_seethrough will block buildings. So it's probably not actually being built on the ceiling, but something else is blocking it, do you have anything that might be blocking it

dont make the solid ceeling func seetrough and cover the whole crap with a box.

nothing should be blocking it...besides a ceiling..oh well...i'll just start over again.

EDIT: Whoa, I fixed it! stupid mapinfo...

    Thanks for your help!

ns works a little different like other mods. for example if you place a ceiliing under an existing ceiling (covering the same area to the walls) and you have a "vakuum" between this ceilings, hl mods will drop all this information of the first ceiling and the space of course and only the lower visible ceiling will be important. in ns the second ceiling would block the commanders view. I came about this when crafting an outdoor location with an builduing under the sky that reaches up to it.. I tried everything but could never make ns to drop the roof of the building. even if I cut out the sky it doesnt work.
so: build as carefully as you can and never place more then one ceiling level.
