'ns Must Be Installed In The Half-life Directory'

Error I get after specifying the HL dir
I was trying to install NS, and I'm asked to specify the HL directory, I do and I get the error 'you must install Natural Selection in the proper directory.'

I get the same problem with CS 1.5 (Not that that matters too much of course!)

It may be the shortcut bug. Read the FAQ.

no, this isn't the desktop shortcut bug...

you say this is happening DURING install?

hmm, mostlikely you are simply pointing the installer at the wrong location.
Often it will default to c:\sierra\half-life\
If you have installed it anywhere else (I have it at c:\games\sierra\Half-Life) make sure your installer is pointing THERE!

    that will probably fix it

are you using full half-life or like dod retail?
if so you probably need the fake hl file, it use to be in the faq on this forum but i dont see the actuall file link anymore. Basicly you get the dummy hl.exe file and stick it in your hl/cs/dod directory, and install ns but point to the fake file, then you must go change the shortcuts to run cstrike.exe or dod.exe or what have you

I don't think that that is it (the error should have said you must have HL1.1.1.0 or cs1.5 installed)

All NS problems are not caused because the bugged shortcut you know....

Make sure (if you're typing the directory manually) that you haven't made a spelling mistake or used a forward slash ( / ) instead of a backslash ( \ ).

Easiest way to do it is to simply browse to the HL directory using the explorer style window in the middle of the screen.. navigate to your HL dir and try that.
