But I also wear glasses, and can't see things 5 feet in front of me. Maybe that should tell us all something?
What do you mean exactly by 'hardcore gaming'? Do you mean running games at extreme resolutions (1600x1280)? Or what would be the easiest on your eyes for 10 hour+ gaming sessions?
I could also recommend certain 21" IBM monitors, some of these use the Trinitron tube as well.
If you really don't want a flatscreen, just buy an LG or Hitachi 21" with a curved tube, perhaps that would suit your personal taste.
Flatscreen can mean either a flat CRT or something plasma based.
Obviously anything with plasma is bad for gaming. Bad latency, same as LCDs.
The only problem with flatscreen CRTs is glare. Hideous, monstrous glare in the wrong lighting conditions. Therefore, most flat CRTS have extra anti-glare coating, which can (rarely) affect the color.
All in all, there is no really no logical reason to avoid flat CRTs. You can find really good ones perfectly suitable for gaming.
I'd recommend checking out gaming sites such as Firingsquad and HardOCP, which review hardware with an eye towards gaming.
as another note, if you ever get a headache from gaming to long, that is b/c of the 60hz refresh rate
60hz is JUST at the edge of 'no visable flicker' technichaly we can't see the flicker, though in reality most of us can (though not nesesarily bother us)
however said flicker will give you MASSIVE headaches. I know alot of programers refuse to use anything at 60hz simply b/c of the headaches (after all when you job requiers you to stare at a scrn AND think at the same time, a headache aint goan be good).
So yah, if you are like me and play long streatches, get anything that can go above 60hz
side note, my moniter dosn't <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> I simply pop 4 ipbrophan and continue playing <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> (this is a bad thing, but I am an idiot)
