Pirates Of The Caribbean

It's worth the ticket price!
For a movie I've never even heard of until I was offered a ticket, I was very pleased with it. And unlike most movies I've seen recently, this one was actually fun from start to finish.
Surprisingly, the characters were very well-developed. Of the few similar movies I've seen, the characters were usually poorly developed, with the emphasis on fights and minimal plot. This movie breaks that apparent tradition, for which I'm very thankful.
Johnny Depp's character - Capt. Jack Sparrow - is an interesting form of character development. Throughout the whole movie, you're questioning as to whether he's insane or brillant. And while I'm not exactly a huge fan of Depp, I doubt anyone could have done this character as well as he did.
Orlando Bloom also gave a very good "non-Legolas" performance as Will Turner, a blacksmith's apprentice who has long since fallen for the chick of the movie. Unfortunately for Will, this "chick" is the Governor's daughter, Elizabeth Swan (Keira Knightly).
The story itself is pretty simple - Elizabeth has a pirate medallion which the cursed pirates of the Black Pearl must retrieve in order to lift a curse. They kidnap her to bring her to their pirate island.
Jack gets captured while trying to steal a ship. Once Will realizes the pirates have kidnapped Elizabeth, he breaks Jack out of prison to guide him to the island, helps him steal a ship, then they race off after the pirates.
What had me so interested in this movie is the fact that it was fun. The sword fights were very well done (although the blacksmith fight was slightly unbelievable in places), the dialogue was what you would expect from that era, and the costumes and sets were fantastic.
And like most movies nowadays, there were a few comedic moments thrown into the mix to ensure the audience stays interested (not that it needed much help, IMO).
Of all the movies I've seen in the past handful of months, this is probably the only one that I've truly enjoyed from start to finish. A friend of mine summed it up best when we were chatting just after leaving the theatre - "I was having a great time, until the end credits started rolling".

Seriously though I thought it looked great and, since I love Johnny Depp (one of my fave actors), I will definitely go see it!
In any case, the movie was very good, I definately enjoyed it. Too bad the theatre was swarmed with prepubescent girls who screamed at every skeleton and went crazy at the few parts of the movie where Will and Elizabeth were together on screen.
Will came off as a little too whiny IMO though, and Elizabeth seemed to drop character in a few places. Her makeup kept shifting from shot to shot just slightly.. especially in some scenes where she should for all intents and purposes be pretty bedraggled, but is constantly swathed in a warm glow (the same one achievable with Ben Nye rose base #037).
It's a pirate movie through and through, pulling in the old swashbuckling roots from the black and whites. I especially liked the 'in' bits from the Disneyland ride.. you can miss them and only realize it after the scene (or in some cases, movie) is over. Heck, they even tossed in some of the Ride Regulars' lines (the bit with the dog isn't uncommon to hear, when you're on a boat packed with people who ride it every time they go to Disneyland).
Personally, I enjoyed it a lot more than Reloaded. Fun instead of preachy, with active twists instead of expected BS. Hopefully people will see it, and we'll get more Jack_Sparrow players, instead of Neo1833642715498354922.
they both put in 110%

There's a little 2 min thing after the credits roll, Jack (the monkey) starts the curse again. (we saw it becuase we went in early waiting for the next showing.)
If I had to rate it I'd say at least a 9 out of 10.
My newspaper gave it 2 1/2 stars (out of 5).
Thanks for the heads up - I always stick around for credits but some impatient friends of mine have forced me to leave some films when the credits started. I didn't in Reloaded, thank god, and I won't for this too !
Mainly because the way they advertised it, and then because the name is too long, I almost fell asleep during the advertisements. ( Pirates of the carribean... bla bla )
Yeah - I almost believed Bal-Sagoth had a hand in writing its title!
This film got a 4 out of 10 review yet I rather enjoyed it and so did a lot of us by the way it seems here.
LMFAO!!!!!! Oh my god....You just made my day. Thank you!
Anyways, I haven't seen it but I would like to point out something;
Disney are running out of film ideas!
What makes me say that? Well, rather than make rides at Disneyworld based on the films, they have now made a film based on a RIDE!
(Also note that the "Dinosaur" ride was called "Countdown to extinction" before the movie of the same name was released...)
*edit* ooh i'm a minion *edit*
One of the best movies I've seen in awhile. I'm a sucker for Johnny Depp though. I've always liked him, and it's refreshing to see him in a non-SleepyHollow, non-FromHell-type roll. (He doesn't convince me as a detective... cept back in the days of 21 Jump Street).
