Yeah, i use the flashlight bug, because whenever i go out without full ammo, i always end up needing some. I also crouch a lot, but i did that back in my Naive days of NS, because i got into the Habit from CS, TFC, DOD etc.
Also, i'm fed up with hearing people complain about pistol scripts. I mean, you can just hammer the mouse button and fire off a pistol as fast as a script can. It's too hard to notice the difference between someone with a script, and someone with an itchy trigger finger
Wow, I didn't know the LMG had clips, I always assume you loaded them with magazines <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
And guys, the people who are exploiting on the marine team are the same people as those who play aliens. It's just that the exploits for marines are much greater.

I try to avoid exploits wherever possible(sometimes that alien just catches you in the vent and doesn't know that holding crouch while you bite will give you a much better chance of killing the marine) I get really annoyed when I see a marine who purposely crouches in a corner to obscure his hitbox and make him near impossible to hit even though he's standing still and you're chomping his face. I just ask the exploiter to stop and that's the end to it whether he stops or not not much point in complaining about it, the best thing you can do is just play clean yourself and hope that others will follow.
I don't know what servers you play on, but on the servers I frequent the only people that exploit are the admins. All you have to do is find a good server.

Coming from a CS background, I can naturally click fast, as the USP is the stable pistol of CS. It literally shoots as fast as you can click the trigger. So...after playing a good year of CS before switiching, I can finger off the clip pretty fast...if only it had 12 shots, not 10...<!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
I also don't like people who absolutely snap and start cursing like a madman at the poor marine who's just trying to make his way through the vent to Port Engine. It's just something that happens accidentally...deal with it. And if they exploit, you must suck bad. Its pretty easy to kill a marine in a vent that is more than one space wide. Just run around him real fast and keep biting. Humans tend to have really bad target acquisition in low light (IE: vents). Unless its a one space by one space vent, where you'd be screwed anyway as a skulk, since you'd get shot dead before your reached him (See: Long Vent).

I'd just like to point out that and exploit is forbidden on Roob's server and we enforce it. We also don't like pistol scripts or bunny hopping. Yes there are a multitude of exploits in the game but you should not use them, even if it is boring to get ammo.
did it not occur to you that most people crouch in a corner so that it cuts out 50% of the places you can attack them from?
in my experience, crouching only ever gives you any advnatage when your actually in a vent... the ability to kill a marine who crouches in open space is as easy as some one who stands... only seems to make a difference when they got a wall over their head. maybe just me though
Okay.. I'm still spanking new at this whole thing. (How new? I haven't finished Half Life yet, and Natural Selection is my very first mod.. whee!)
Would somebody please explain this crouching in a corner thing? I did it in one of the few games I was playing in, got eaten, and promptly got told not to do that, but nobody told me why not.
It just seemed a natural thing to do for me.. get in the corner so that sneaky skulks aren't getting behind me, and get low so that I'm closer to the floor and more on the level with the skulks, thus more likely to hit them than if I'm trying to aim down at them.
If there is some kind of exploit brought on by this, will it be fixed in 2?
The only exploit I use is bunnyhopping, which I don't really consider an exploit, even with all the tutorials how to do it, its still hard to master, exploits are usually easy. I used to do the flashlight armoury exploit, but then I starting think it was lame. I have an extreamly fast trigger finger, I get accused of pistol scripting all the time, I can shoot as fast as they can. I guess you could call my high (100 usually, 60-70 with several aliens on the screen, 40 in a turret farm) fps an exploit, but its not my fault some of you have crappy computers. I did the corner crouching thing once, I was the only one left, I wandered into noname hive, about halfway there our base was gone, so I continued and crouched in the corner, knowing what crouching in corners does. I killed about 5 aliens before I ran out of ammo, knifed two more, and jumped off the railing to my death. It was funny watching my team cheer me on <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->. It's hard to hit crouching marines with the Skulk's bite, because the Skulk's bite is buggy. However, as a skulk, all you have to do to be able to bite croutching marines is hold the crouch key yourself.
Not only is this way off, exploiters aren't even in the majority. Even then, the exploits mean very little. Let's take a look at them, shall we?
1: Bunnyhopping Addressed next patch.
2: Ammo\build exploit bug I think it's being addressed next patch. Either way, this offers very, very little advantage. It isn't going to turn the tide of battle because you can hump the armoury faster, or get your resource tower up one second faster.
3: Pistol script Addressed next patch.
4: Marines crouching in the corner Hold duck, you nubcaek. I eat vent marines for breakfast.
5: Infinite jetpacking. Addressed next patch.
To sum up: the exploits either do not matter, are easily combatible, are being fixed, or a combination of the above. So stop whining <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
The flashlight exploit bugs me because so many people seem to think that it doesn't affect gameplay.
A marine building a phasegate in 3 seconds instead of 15 can be the difference between being able to kill him before reinforcements poor into your hive and not being able to.
Extrapolate that to the time required to build a TF and several turrets - a flashlight exploiter can do it in 30 seconds while a non exploiter may take up to 1:30. That's a HUGE advantage. There's a REASON that building time is put in there instead of having insta-build buildings.

Some mods encouraged the use of this engine fault (Team Fortress for example.) but in the end it is a game flaw. It does not matter if it takes skill to use or not, in Natural Selection it is considered an exploit.
To boot, I don't consider any "Skill" that is scriptable to be any kind of skill at all. You may be able to do it, but most cheaters will not be bothered to learn the technique.

Most hackers will go marines as said way before for reasons... I personally respect players for play style and wit, rather than "frag fest skills". Its one thing taking out an entire team in a few seconds, it's another thing trying to and failing - IN STYLE. Succeeding without style < failing with style in my books ^-^. It IS an exploit. It also happens to take skill to use. Whether it is a positive exploit (such as rocket jumping) or a negative exploit (such as the build\flashlight bug) is debatable.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Bunny hopping is done through pressing a combination of keys and mouse movements. In most fighting games/any game, you can do special moves or abilities through pressing combinations of keys or buttons. Well if you look at a game like Street Fighter 2, guess all combos and special moves are exploits too huh?
Bunny hopping is no different IMHO, too bad it's gone in 2.0. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I'm sorry. The special moves in Street Fighter 2 were made on purpose, with the intent that people would discover them and use them. (Hence the animations for those moves.) Silent Bunnyhopping is just a flaw in the physics engine of half life. Nothing more, nothing less.
I think it's being addressed next patch. Either way, this offers very, very little advantage. It isn't going to turn the tide of battle because you can hump the armoury faster, or get your resource tower up one second faster.
4: Marines crouching in the corner
Hold duck, you nubcaek. I eat vent marines for breakfast.

Both of these are also fixed in 2.0
Skulk bite has changed significantly and will take some getting used to.

How can you be so sure that its a "flaw" pure and simple? How do you know some programmer didnt go "Hrm why dont I make a way to move forward without pressing forward". Its a little out there but hey it could happen . <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Its really just a matter of opinion, and in opinions majority rules no matter what you say.
On a side note look at that quote, its like a rabbit hole! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Exactly, people will just bring up the stupid and useless "Oh your just a nub" argument because they can't win without exploiting. I've pretty much given up on trying to stop exploiting on my server, instead, I just politely ask people to stop if its getting way way out of hand.
im seriously confused..
whats much whorser than a disabled flashlight key? a disabled f4 key.. i suck last time for a long time in the readyroom of hera in this alien pit.. and i dont wanted to reconnect.. aargh.. ive pressed 20 times f4 till i realized the server admin disabled it..damn... this was lame.. the ppls dont f4ed ,they disconnected instead.. wasnt a funny game.. wheres the point of spawning 200 times amd getting instantly killed by ha marines with hmg´s,without killing our last hive? damn fragfarming.. things like statistics, ranks or points should getting banned from a game like this... theres only one important point.. the victory...
stats like how often a team won in one mapcycle is ok...
the other stuff is just for llamas without life...machos... kids... and sissys.. when they want stats they should play cs.. individual stats are ****.. the team is important and not a single "heroic rambo" person.... i respect players for their teamplay..and not for their stats..
ARGH!!!! offtopic.. ooops <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Come play at my server instead *More shameless self plugs* <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
I personally respect players for play style and wit, rather than "frag fest skills". Its one thing taking out an entire team in a few seconds, it's another thing trying to and failing - IN STYLE. Succeeding without style < failing with style in my books ^-^.
This is why I now almost always go kharaa atm, far more fun and much better for my playstyle (KAMIKAZEEEEEEE!!!). I lay claim to the title "Super-skulk" ^-^
no common n00b knew about OGC when it first came out either, but i've honestly never seen a problem with bunny hopping. Is there one? It makes you harder to hit and faster, but at the cost of reducing your accuracy and reducing how well you can focus on a single point (i.e, a skulk)
