<div class="IPBDescription">Downloads inside.</div>The <a href='http://www.steampowered.com/' target='_blank'>Steam Website</a> has been updated with the news that Steam is now 100% open to the public.
Now you can play CS 1.6 is your into that, but more importantly, supposedly the HL 2 Media is going to be added any day now. Also if you have any friends who don't own half-life, they can now legally play for free, though you can't run mods like NS, only the stuff listed in the Steam window. Its also worth it to check out the new GUI changes they've done. Mostly nifty stuff.
For your conveneince, and since the EXE is only 500K, I've attatched it to this post so you don't have to wait in line for 14 hours to download a file smaller than your average picture filled post.
[edit] Re-uploaded in a Zip file, if this is corrupted too then the installer I got is borked. I dunno, I haven't installed off this particular version as I've had steam installed. There's still mirror's on the official page though.[/edit]

There's 244 game servers going now (all but 9 are CS servers). But due to the sudden publicness the servers are choked and such.
I haven't even bothered to play more than about 10 seconds of CS 1.6 (for the sole purpose of checking out the shield) and about 30 seconds of the new TFC (teleporters = the suck). I just got the thing for the HL2 Media
im hearing that there is a horrible terrorist exploit w/the shield that makes him invincible while carrying a regular gun.

ok, i've left hl/cs/tfc to "always keep this game up to date". So it keeps dling ALOT (i can see it at the monitor).
cant create any local server. hangs after 2 squares. :/

OK I think there's some slight confusion here.
Counter-Strike 1.6 is NOT out .... yet.
Counter-Strike 1.6 BETA is. CS 1.6b is what you're all playing
via Steam. There's probably going to be a 1.6 update to 1.5 in the next
month or two, and then its properly out.
Steam = beta, hence all the bugs and lock-ups the veteran users have had
to cope with until the public was released.

And another thing of my infinite imagination is I'm allready thinking of alot of NS games like Natural Selection: Invasion,Natural Selection:The Mysterious Hive,Natural Selection: Call To Arms,Natural Selection:Kharaa Domination etc.Oh I got a ton of ideas for stuff just a matter of time finding the time to drawout ideas for this stuff. lol
As for Steam...I'm liking the newer interface so far, and CS1.6 is, well, not very different from 1.5. The two new weapons seem like they were just thrown in (CS has so many weapons you could take out 1/3 and most people who never use them would never notice) and the "tactical shield" seems like it'll only be used for effective teamwork in clan play. I'm sticking with NS, thank you very much.

As for the lines of people waiting to get NS v2.0,I won't have to worry about that cause I did get a Fileplanet personal server account <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> in about 5 minutes with a download accelerator I'll have NS v2.0 and be playing to my hearts content hehe lol <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> OH and I'm sure CobraChaos will too rofl.
If your game is hanging upon trying to join or create a game do this:
Press the "monitor" button at the steam menu.
Even if it says CS is up to date and ready to play, if your monitor has activity (downloading at yadda yadda kbs) then it's still doin something important.
I left it running and went to sleep. I don't know how long it took, but when I woke up again it was done and it let me connect to servers and stuff.
Be prepared; the shield is fun, but your going to be bombarded with "YOUR EXPLOITING j00 BAD BAD PERSON!"
Evidently, in the CS 1.6 world, a shield should no longer be bullet proof when it is undeployed. But I digress....
