It puts you in a medium size room and lets you pick, throw, drop, etc, just about everything in there, which includes flower pots, cue balls, hanging lights, shelves, knickknacks, and more.

It also lets you turn the gravity off or on at will, as well as summon bombs that you can place where ever you like. Putting a bomb beneath a pile of pots and shelves with gravity off is entertaining, to say the least.

Finally, you can save the state of the room at any time, so if you manage to balance all of the balls on top of each other, or make a Rube Goldbergesque setup, you can save it and we can all try it.

Just thought you might enjoy a look at how fun physics can make even a simple room.

Must take a hefty computer and vidcard to run, no?

Looks and sounds pretty cool.

Actually, I've only got a 1Ghz Duron and a GeForce 2 MX, and it runs pretty nicely on mine. For those of you who experienced pangs of envy upon reading the last sentence (I'm sure there's at least one or two of you... I hope... <sniff>), at the same link there's the older version of the demo, which looks almost as good, and I used to run with my 333Mhz Celeron and Voodoo Banshee well enough.

So don't be afraid, click today! Or something...

I'm having fun using only a 500mhz celeron and a 64meg GeForce 2 mx :-)

It chugs when you do lots of stuff, but its still fun.

Yeah, it actually doesn't suck as much CPU cyclage as you would think considering what it's doing, and how nice it looks. I'm too tired now, but I'll post up a couple of other physics demos that are fun to play with...

strange, yet fun. I had about 30 minutes of excitement, especially when i was trying to get the bomb under a huge pile of stuff, then it went off in my hand

You press the "g" button to toggle gravity, strangely enough. Press F1 for a listing of all of the keys.

Sorry about the crash, Beast. Did it lock up as it started loading? Mine seemed to lock up as I started it, with a blank black screen, but after hitting enter a couple of times, it was fine. Also, you could try the older version at the same site, which should run on almost anything this side of a P166.

If you grab something, and then hold the Right mouse button down while moving the mouse up and down you and push things away from you and drag them closer, so you really can move things in all 6 degrees of freedom, as well as move yourself too.

I did notice that you don't cast a reflection in the mirror though. Must be a vampire.

I'm still waiting for someone to concoct some elaborate set up and save the setting, so we can all take a look. Or can you only save states in the older version? I forget. I think in the documentation it claims you can stack the billiard balls one on top of the other, if you do it very carefully...

thing this is pretty fun. hey, try to stack all the little brown jars in the room, and if you manage, take a screen and show it. i tried so hard and only managed to get 4

Wow, the first time I tried it, the screen went blank and refused to do anything no matter what buttons I pushed (including ctrl-alt-del) forcing me to restart, now it simply crashes (illegal operation) whenever I open it, fun for the whole family!

Pulse, try the older version at the same page. It should be much more forgiving than the newer one. The newer one is optimized for P4's or some such stuff, even though I'm using a Duron, but the older one has almost all of the same stuff. Well worth a try...

Twilight

[EDIT]
Pulse, in case you have a Radeon, here's the troubleshooting stuff.

System Requirements - Please check that you computer reaches the following minimum requirements.

Pentium III Processor or better
At least 64 MB Ram
DirectX 8 Compatible 3D card with at least 16 MB Video memory
3D card must support Texture Compression and 8 bit Stencil buffer
Windows 98, Windows Me, or Windows 2000
DirectX 8.0a Installed

Currently known compatible 3D cards are...

Nvidia TNT2 or GeForce series
ATI Radeon series

Please ensure you have the latest drivers available for your 3D card.
You can download the latest versions from your card manufacturers web site.

Note for ATI Radeon 3D card owners

The Actor demo requires the 8 bit Stencil buffer to be enabled on this card. To do this follow the following steps.

From the control panel, open the 'Display' settings.
Select the 'Settings' tab, and click on the 'Advanced' button.
Select the 'Direct3D' tab.
Ensure that the '8 bit Stencil' button is checked.
You will need to reboot, for any changes to take effect.

Recommended Specs

Pentium III 800 Mhz
128 MB Ram
3D Card with 32MB Video memory

The demo has been optimised for the Intel® Pentium® 4 processor.

I have a Geforce 2, it must be my cpu, although I have never ever had any trouble (outside of low fps) playing a game due to my cpu, I'll try the older version...

Pulse, I just tried running it again, and it gave me an illegal exception BSOD or some such, and I canceled it with the ESC key. Then I tried running it again, and it just stayed at a black screen. I let it stay there for about 20 seconds, then pushed enter. It dinged at me, and loaded right up. Weird... I mention this because I have a GeForce 2 MX440 myself.

Let me know how the older one goes.

By the way, I checked, and the newer one doesn't allow you to save states. This is too bad, because the older one does, and it even comes with some pre-defined saved states. One of these is the balanced pool balls, I believe, which is probably where I'm remembering it from (They stay unless you nudge them at *all*, or even turn gravity off and then on again.)

It also has a cool one where the chairs, shelves, pots, etc, are all balanced in this intricate maze-like pattern, and you are supposed to take the cue ball and manuever it through from one side of the maze to the other, without touching/knocking anything over. Never managed it myself.

Twilight

PS I managed to get 4 of those little pots balanced once, but it was hard, and more than that, you'd have to be pretty good. (Actually, I'm sure someone's taken that as a direct challenge, and in mere hours someone will post a pic with 10 of them or something. )

PPS
Just remembered that in the old version at least, there was a rat hiding under one of the tables or desks or something. Maybe it was the pool table. Anyway, if you bothered it, it goes running around the room. Of course, turn off the gravity, and it only makes swimming motions in the air. Not sure if it's in the new one or not.

what are you tlaking about? hit ctrl-s ingame and save away! then use ctrl-l to load, it has this really awesome one wher eEVERY remotly round thing is balanced, and if you so much as move the cursor past the pool balls, they topple. really weird.

Erendor, you're talking about the newer version, right? If so, that's great. It's just that in the old version, it was listed under the commands when you pushed F1 for help, I think, and on this one it didn't show it. Thanks for the correction on that.

Also, you can click on the projector and play the movie.

interesting

I think the water is most interesting. If it was REALLY detailed, the rat would kinda wiggle it's legs in mid air when gravity is off and not go anywhere wouldn't that be sweet?

Ummm, isn't that exactly what happens to the rat when the gravity is off? Or am I remembering incorrectly?
