???
An unupgraded pistol does 20 damge and level 3 carapace absorbs 60% of that damage. I was under the distinct impression that if a carapaced skulk was hit by a pistol the carapace would take 12 damge and the skulk would take 8 damge I.E. 62 health and 18 armor remaining. However in-game if a carapaced skulk is hit by an unupgraded pistol he only takes 5 damge to carapace and health I.E. 65 health and 25 armor remaining. This means an uncarapaced skulk takes 5 pistol shots to kill in game and a carapaced skulk takes 9 shots to kill in-game. Is it just me or is that a little weird cause if carapce absorbed 100% damge it would only take 5 shots to kill a carapaced skulk because it would be equal to having 100 health.

The absorbed damage just goes away.

and then as you get less armor less gets absorbed.

But 10 damage is still being done if 60% want away wouldnt only 8 damage be done in total

The way it works is like this:

The percentage of damage which is 'absorbed' doesn't just go away. For example (I'm not sure about the actual percentages, I'm too lazy to read...), if you have 30 armor that absorbs 60%, and you get hit by a pistol which does 20 damage, that means 12 armor will go away, and the remaining 8 will be taken from your health, since armor = 30 - (20 * .60) = 18....

If you can't understand what that means, then you are not fit to live, and you should retake Math...

Armour takes half the amount apportioned to it. The rest goes to health. In theory its that simple, and it is for marines. However for aliens it's more complicated.

I can't remember how much but for aliens with caraapce a certain amount of the damage is simply chucked out of the window before the damage is split between armour and health.

For example, a HA is hit by a Onos gore for 100 damage. HA absorbs 95%. So 5 damage will go to health. The other 95 is halved and then taken off.

Can someone please post a correct alien example to ilustrate ?

    That's correct.

However, in addition, carapace seems to have some value of damage it negates outright... this makes the formula for carapace skulks very weird.

heh.... I wasn't aware the damage just "went away."
