need some help with my first room-RR
Hey all I have Valve Hammer and installed all the compile tools pointing to VHE and stuff I just need to know where to start.Like how to do my first room the startroom with the join aliens and marines random team and spectate signs.Like which option to start drawing walls locking them in then applying a texture.

I have alittle more than 100 ns maps designed out allready. When I learn to run VHE and successfully start a ns map my goal for the future is to make 1 map a day till I reach 100 or more.

here are some maps I allready designed:

ns_strike
ns_night
ns_twilight
ns_prophecy
ns_thenexus
ns_chime
ns_maze
ns_killian (deathmatch type map)
ns_hazardous
ns_havoc
ns_nemesis
ns_goliath
ns_wraith
ns_strange
ns_zenith

some of the maps have triple res node rooms. and also is it good to have alot of vents in a map?

    one map a day?
u mean one new map thread a day?

even if each map would be total crap this is still a funny project if you have any clue about mapping.

LOL No Ollj not a new map thread a day.

Maybe 1 funmap and the rest serious maps.Well maybe not 1 map aday unless I get superiorly good at using VHE and mapping and keeping at it till the map is done that 1 map a day thing maybe a possibility.

Ollj I think a newbie that just started using VHE learning about it and doing a successful map shows some mapping skill and the person's map showing where they may need to upgrade or make improvements etc.

I was asking for some help to start a rr,and "constructive" help would be greatly appreciated.

The serious maps I'm thinking of making might be between 10 to 15 megs apiece or more or close to it.

and coolcookie I quite enjoy yer map ns_overlord very nice.

Good on you for making a serious map. 1 map a day is an incredible stretch though, more like 1 map every 6 months.

I'm sorry, I won't give any constructive help but... I just had to comment that... One map a day?

Look, I've been mapping for many many years now, from the day Half-Life got out. And I tell you, you would have to be mapping the WHOLE day (24 hours) and you still wouldn't make even half of a NS map. As for fun maps, maybe you could... A very basic and primitive one though...

So, it's great that you are so enthusiastic about it, believe me, you'll need to be... But being new to mapping can cause frustration like that. Go very slowly and pull your hair out whenever you want...

As for "designing maps" like on a conveyor... What can I say, good to play around but bad for "imagination capacity". Many people have been going "Ohh, I made too many maps and need ideas.". Take one map at a time, work on it, feel it and dream about it, polish it to perfection... And this is how you make a map. You spend some months on it...

    Good luck!
