Deligation Of Work
<div class="IPBDescription">A bit of a rant.</div> Sorry, i'm just extremely irritated right now.
I'm sat at work rushing a piece of print design that <i>should</i> have been done hours ago.
This project was given to a cow-orker of mine who, instead of giving it the attention it deserved, pumped out something with little (to no) design work, poor colour scheme, atrocious quality of the logo / motif (one thing that's excessively important with professional print work) and no thought given whatsoever to the layout of the thing.
This is still a quick and easy job, but i've so far gone through 3-4 seperate designs and layouts, getting opinions and approval et cetera. I've sat here and pumped a shedload of work and thought into this, into something that was HIS work.
The only reason i'm doing this crap is because he had to go somewhere. But where he had to go he didn't have to leave for at least 3 hours later. Also ontop of that he had the blatant audacity to take his lunch hour in the last hour he was in (12:30-13:30, he left at 13:30). Before then he sat around and played a mini-golf game.
This project was given to him at 10am today, and <b>should</b> have only been an hour or two's work. Even with his slacking and insulting lunch hour he could have had it done. But no. He figures i can do it while he's not here.
Why is it that i'm sat in a web design office and there's only one designer actually designing anything (me).
Argghhhhh!
Sorry, just had to rant a bit.

If he's a superior, not much you can do other than polish your resume and start looking <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
If he's a peer, tell him he's a lazy SOB, tell him to get bent, then stop doing his work. Putting his slackerness out in the open is the only way to prevent it in the future.
If none of this applies, uh, at least you're getting paid?
I know i'll sound pretentious by saying this, but i've had a great amount of people tell me the same, so i don't much care for modesty. My work is better than his. A lot better. This is a proven fact and the opinion of many people. For example, his favourite piece of design software is Paint Shop Pro 6. Need i go on?
I'm sick of this. He started off with the same amount of work as me, and he's gradually had less and less to do (he got more content related briefs as opposed to long-winded design proposals, et cetera) and now he's up to the point where about 5 hours a day he'll just play games. And no, that's not an exaggeration.
Something i forgot from the first post, my workload is comparatively heavy, i'm still in the process of branding and working on a final wireframe for another project and also waiting on the go ahead on 2 other design proposals i've submitted. He has nothing to do. Why do you think the work was given to him in the first place.
You might be wondering "Why is he spending all his time typing this rather than working if he's got so much on" well, that's because i'm p**sed off, i can't work when i'm feeling this irate, it seals up every creative pore in my body.
And, believe me, he's going to be catching an earfull from me tomorrow.
We also basically share a big desk and sit face to face across it. We have a single phone on it for both of us. Guess who's side the phone's on and who answers it every time without fail. That's right, you guessed it.
Without much doubt, the reason you get more complicated work is because you can do the complicated work. They don't want crap. They want results.
Now, "Why won't they get rid of him?!?" you might ask. Because it's easier to limp along on a bum leg than no leg at all. Replacing employees is always the last option. Most employers won't fire someone until they do something illegal.
Your best course of action is to tell him what you think, then go straight to your superior to prevent him from twisting your words. Managers don't like tattle-tales but if he's impeding your productivity they usually want to know. Always speak in terms of time delays and costs. Then they'll listen.
Good luck. And don't go postal <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
Jesus christ, I wouldn't put up with that kind of crap.
In the bar environment, you either do your payload or you get fired. I've seen sooooooooo many people come and go because they'd much rather have a chat than do the work they were meant to do. Seriously, if you slow down you fall so far behind it's not funny.
Go and report this to your boss. I don't care how much you relax in your free time, but work times WORK time. Lazy sacks of crap....
They'll know soon enough, i just don't feel like whining to them about it.
But in my usual snidey way i'll hint them towards the information of his slacking and the fact he took an hour off work which just screwed things up.
Right now i have 2 piles of paper on my desk. One is a single page with a post-it note on it that says "Phil" (him). The second pile has about 6-7 pages in it, and a post-it note that says "Rich" on it (me).
I'm glad I have flexible working enviroment and I don't need to stress because of it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
As for a little update. Because i didn't get finished at my normal time because i was printing out crap for this i missed my normal train, so i got the one 5 minutes later which was 2 carriages shorter, 20% more packed and an inhuman temperature. Oh, and i had to stand up the whole way back. I'm glad i paid my £230 a month for this privalege.
Which reminds me of another point. Myself and this other guy come from roughly the same area, so both of us pay around £230 for train, except he's kicking up a massive fuss whining and pressuring the company to make them do something about the cost. I, for one, have just accepted that this is what happens in full time employment, if you have to commute, unless they specifically offer to pay your travel, you're not going to get it. But he's been b*tching and moaning on a daily basis to get this sorted. What a tosser.
Hate every **** in your way.

Quoting that "thing" that is Marilyn Manson will hardly motivate me.
