Another 2.0 Question

Hi, I've been having alot of problems with NS eating all my CPU and with no money for upgrades and with constantly dropping/losing FPS during gun fights or just standing in the marine base I have spent weeks tweaking and setting NS and my graphics card to the highest performance possible ( gf4mx ) yet I still drop FPS like crazy. So finally today I had it and I searched the modeling forum for some low polygon count files and I tried them out today. They help my FPS dramatically. Just changing the turret/siege/TF/skulk I got about a 10-15 FPS increase which helps me alot. Now the only problem is, I can't use these low polygon models in CAL or even servers with file consitancy, and I can't help that my comp can't handle all the polygons but yet i get punished for it. So I was wondering, if at all possible if perhaps with 2.0 they could release all the same models but with greatly reduced polygon counts for all us players with low end computers? Or perhaps take some of the low polygon models from the model forums and make them offical and playable even with file constiency? Thank you.

If you're having problems and you've got a gf4, mx or not, there's something up besides you needing upgrades I think. I'm not having anyproblems running it and I've got a gf2mx. I don't think this is going to happen, but it's a nice idea for the low end users still.

I too own a gf2, I haven't tweaked anything and get 60fps but it drops when lot's and lot's of stuff are going on at the same time (e.g. turret farm.)

Best solution: Switch off netgraph and stop worrying, it can't effect your gameplay that much.

This is link, I was getting 30 FPS with a 2.5 ghz and GF3, which should not be happening. It simply is an half-life problem so upgrading will not help. Here is the link to help you fix it.

Hopefully this will help you, it helped me a lot. Also on a side note, make sure you have downloaded the Detonator patchs for your Geforce, they help alot.

By any chance you got win2000. Cause i swear that screws up my framerate.
Just a few weaks ago both my and my friend still had xp and pushed 100fps in any condition you can imagine. now both of us got win2000 and have odd **** problems with it which includes frames. After going through the frame guide (posted above) turning v-synce off, ablahblah filtering off, and running refresh rate lock program i still cant get more than 70 and most the time only have 40. Dam jps don't lift off the ground for me sometimes.
I also have a problem with lack of response on my keyboard with win2000 if i doing to much at once like flying and biting. only bites sometimes. And i get a stupid split second mouse lock up once in a while which is enough to send a skulk running into a wall and get very disorientated. I hate win2000.

oy the VSYNC is a pain in the arse. Some games it helps some like HL it makes it worse, of course if you have a good card and your sitting at 60fps you dont get much change.

    This saved my FPS
    Truely it did!
    I have a P3 866MHz, 512MBs pc133MHz Ram and a GF4 ti 4600 with 128mbs ddr ram.
I was getting a sad 30 to 40 FPS, I was crying when a battle was happening and when someone spammed mines or structures.. Life ended for me!
    Then I read this
    <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=18&t=34027' target='_blank'>Roobubba's Guide</a>
I set my Max_fps for 100 and did the changes listed in here, now I get an average of 95 FPS and the lowest I drop is mid 60s where I would have had 10s before!

I know I spammed you enough already Roob, but, YOU SAVED MY FPS!

Did you guys download the refresh rate fix program to help your low FPS problem? Because I tried to download it 3 times and all 3 times I did, when i ran it, it made my moniter go pitch black and i would have to quick restore my entire computer just to get my moniter back.

    ( I got a p4 1.6ghz 256 RAM, gf4 mx420 and I use WinXP.)

(BTW I get 100 FPS now, but when there are alot of turrets/mines/action or im near a hive i can drop to about 20-30)

The Giving Tree, do you have the drivers installed for your monitor or are you using default drivers? The monitor's drivers will tell the refresh rate program what the safe maximums are for your monitor at each resolution. Some resolutions won't run any better than 75 Hz, and the monitor won't respond properly if you try to run it higher. If you don't have the correct monitor drivers, try to find them, or set all the resolutions on the refresh rate tool to 75Hz max to be safe. Some older monitors won't do any better than 60 Hz on higher resolutions anyway.

Well maybe your monitor is the weak link, I'm using a GF2 GTS and i get 100 fps in the ready room, 65-75 in most instances during the game.
