Suggestion For Ns

<div class="IPBDescription">An idea/suggestion.</div> Sorry didn't really know where this belonged. It's not a suggestion for the basics of the game being not a call to the dev team, just one to the community. It's sort of a server and server operator idea, so if it belongs there, someone move it plz???

I was thinking that the only thing missing from this great game was it wasn't believable. You were in the marine shoes and killed that scum of the universe from your halls and space stations, but after 5 seconds were teleported back to the readyroom, onto the next map.

Now the idea is a variation of Enemy Terrotory, but i'm sure it's been thought of before. I just want to bring the idea to the surface it so that somepeople can work towards it. *Your wondering what i'm talking about, read on*

Now the ns crew has desided that new game types aren't going to be developed*AS OF YET*, however that doesn't mean that the community can't make their own plugins and metamods - i'm clueless as to how it should go together, if it could even work on a principal level?! *the idea is explained still further on <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> *

I suggest that we make a game that goes on. A sorta Tug Of War style server. So that say if aliens win a game on the level, ns_nothing, the map changes to something on the alien side, like ns_blast or something. But if marines win the next map played is ns_eclispe. This creates an element of something worth fighting for and that great comeback you just did mean something and not forgotten in the next round. 3 maps wouldn't be nough, maybe more like 7 or 9. Hope ya with me at this point. These tug of wars can go on for ages like a real/fantasy war...

We could have many maps in this style server, with the server running for maybe an entire day, with the postion on "rope" recorded on a file or something, along with some added stats for the day or something. This could then turn out to be a monthly thing with big servers delegating their clans to either marines and aliens to play throughout the month on that team on those servers. A monthly winning side, Aliens/Marines displayed on their website.

However i know there are problems, probably huge problems why this thing couldn't run. Don't reply with the little ones that are easily fixable, just the large ones. Btw it'd take a huge effort from the servers to run these things, probably too much effort not worth wasting on little old Ns servers.

    The idea it's not wrong but...

    In NS it's already tough to recover from a disvantage... if a noob alien team losees agains't a leet commander, and on the next map, they play on a alien-difficult map, how many chances they had to win the match?

    I doubt that'd be a big problem -- maybe a rare occurence now and then, but so are hackers (rare occurences that is).

    Anyway, I like your idea, but personally I think the maps are well balanced overall (not completely, but well enough that there isn't any such 2:1 alien:marine win ratios. Perhaps there be a little more rope to tug... but its 2 am and my mind is blank. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    the idea is awesome. Maybe it would need some more maps to work but that is solved quite easy

    It's not a bad idea for games in general, but I don't think it's appropriate to NS. I'm all for epic games (I wouldn't mind massive, massive maps <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->) but I wouldn't like to play a campaign-style NS. Anyway, it goes against the background story (read it. It's very good) and that sort of thing irritates me. I like it when stuff sticks to the backstory <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->.

    that would make certain maps more played than others wont it? more so.
    Depending on the placement of the maps, the central ones will most certainly have more play time. This could get boring.

    But as an idea i like the links between maps.

    Phoenix: I think this is in the right forum. It's not a conventional idea for devs or for ns gameplay but for server ops etc.
