The Feminist Thread

<div class="IPBDescription">A cry from the heart....?</div> If anyone has read the "Those damn Feminists" thread, two things will strike you. First is that it is suspiciously akin to what is supposed to be limited to the now locked Discussions thread. Second, and even more amusing, is that the forum mods who are supposed to be locking it are being drawn into the discussion <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Seems to me that a whole stack of ppl (forum mods included) seem to really want their discussion forum back. Can anyone tell me what progress Nem and MonsE are making in developing a flame proof discussion forum?

This has been raised in the thread in question. As far as i know, don't expect the Discussion Forum to be reopened until after 2.0 is released, but not just then, WAY after it's released since the forums are going to be hit with an influx of new players and will grow in size. It's only then, when user amounts stabalise, can the maturity of the community be assessed to see whether the reopening of the forum will be a wise idea.

    Or something like that.

Yes the discussions forum will be back I believe/hope. It was closed because most people couldn't argue correctly, but I believe we can behave <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> Maybe we can find a solution to this bad arguing type thing?

I suppose they are allowing discussions where you actually <b>discuss</b> instead of arguing. Any thread that has a possibility of becoming something flamable is being removed.

    I think.

Whereas a flame match would be.

#1 will say his points are right.
    #2 will say "SUYF NUB".
#1 will make a comment about #2's mother.
#3 will insist that both #1 and #2 create a vacuum.
#4 will be a mod locking the topic.

I think they should figure out a way so that people can vote on people they want tempbanned from discussion, and it automatically does it. That was, it's either self moderating, or nobody's participating enough anway.

Nooooo, no way. Get enough flamers together and you'll find the people discussing seriously getting banned for no reason.

Short of making the forum moderated (as in each post must be screened by a mod before it goes up on the site) i don't see a way of making the forum flame retardant.

Ways to re-open the discussion forum in a way that prevents its previous...problems...is being considered. It is not my place to say how much.
That said, MonsE's quote still holds: don't expect it to be re-opened before NS2.0 is released. Until then, we moderators will be <s>capricious and unpredictable</s> as reasonable as possible when we decide where to draw the line between off-topic rambling and discussion.

If you have something to say about a thread reply in the thread. No need to clutter up the boards.

Secondly if you have issues with previous locks PM a moderator, as has been stated previously.

As for the new forum/reopening a forum issue word is they're not planning any changes to the boards till at least a few weeks after 2.0.
