<div class="IPBDescription">me != skillful</div> I wonder if anyone else is in the same boat as me.
After playing NS for a while, i'm generally not too bad at it, except one aspect, JP's and Lerks. I've always had really bad problems with maneuvering them and flying effectively. Only recently have i learnt how to hover using bare minimum JP power. Again, i've only just recently (ok, call me a nub) learnt that you can hold down jump on a lerk and you glide. Bah.
But what irritates me is i've FINALLY got the knack of doing these only to have 2.0 force me back to square one. Bah.

What fps do you have while flying jp's?
I learned lerking by starting up a lan game and create myself some lerk obstacle maps xD

I get about 60fps constantly. Well, until there's spores / umbra.
i have 100 fps but around 70 when i'm in a base

It caps at 60, for some reason even thought i've changed the max_fps.
But i'm not particulaly bothered since 60fps is just fine, i'm used to it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
and i knwo the feeling... i still crash and burn with Jp sometimes lol
i am ok on movement etc but when i get ina firefight i dont tap etc i just hold it down... so i lose fuel fast...
Read the Roob's fps guide from the Tech support forum (it is stickied in there) and you will get 100 fps after that.
(and if you are too lazy to read, then just simply turn the v-sync off from your graphic card setup)
Yeah, well i can JP pretty well if there is not much action, because then my thrust is pretty good, but when there is some action, I hit the floor every 3 seconds <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> (stupid fps)
Looks fine to me.
As for lerks and JP's, im much more comfy as a fade or HA x]
I find a usefull way to get a good burst of speed out of the lerk, and to save energy, is to flap once or twice, and then hold down jump and you will glide at high speed, and because you are always going down its unlikely that you'll snag yourself on the ceiling.
High FPS (60+) is fundamental to playing, at leats to me. I'm glad I'll be able to remove dynamic lightning in 2.0 to raise my FPS since it is too low right now. I have V-sync off in all FPS games.
Ok, I missed that thread, but how can anyone call it exploit, if you wan't to increase your fps??
So all ppl with good comps are exploiters...
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> The 60 fps cap is windows XP i beleive, it sets the refresh rate at 60, so nothing will go over it, i cant be arsed to turn it off though, its not like theres much difference between 100 and 60.

My fps was to capped in 60 when I had windows 2000. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

It's a well known fact that the Jp is based heavily on your FPS, you get more power, more control, and stuff like that, the higher your fps are. It's fixed in the next version, but as it stands, if you sit there and try to squeeze out more fps just to get a better JP than others, that is an exploit. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

So is it an exploit if you go and buy better components to your computer, so you can "squeeze" your fps to get better thrust for JP? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
I did. And the comm gave me a jp, and respected me. Whats your point then?
I have quite a fast computer, yet I play at 640x480. Why? Performance.

And you bought new hardware specifically for gaining extra fps in NS so you could JP better?
now ive got a much nicer pc, sure the extra nice looking graphics is nice and all, but i cant see why people complained about the awful graphics in software (im not fussy <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> ) i mean, if it looks vaguely right its good enough for me.
all he was saying was.. that theree was a thread on this guy.. he wasnt trying to dig it up was he?
so dont turn it into it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
just let it be..
100 is much different from 60 and btw this is halflife you should get 100 fps without buying highend stuff. You just need a midrange vid card (I have a G4 4200 64 meg) and a decent proc, I think anything over 1 gig my 800 got 60 easily but I never checked to see if it got any higher before I upgraded.
Back to square one with me too <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

That's really frightning...
And haven't we already covered the fact that the lerk has changed in 2.0? (the answer is yes, it has changed)
I used to be 60fps for a long time and never bothered trying to fix the xp/2000 issue.
However once I did, I was amazed at the change in gameplay. Build times, flying, it was a totally different experience.
Remember 60-100 fps is a 66% increase in performance.
