I'm pretty sure the majority of my specs will leave the game playable, but I'm thinking of maybe springing for the radeon 9800 pro.
Currently have a p4 2.4ghz, asus p4g8x deluxe mobo, a gig of pc2100 ram running dual channel, and a radeon 9700 pro card.
Will prolly get doom and half life 2, see how they run. If its tolerable, I'll keep setup as is, if not, say hello to the radeon 9800 <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Nuts to "playable". I want both Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 to be in their full blazing glory when I see them on my machine for the first time, which is why I built a new machine a couple weeks ago. Once HL2 comes out, I'm going to spring for a big bad GFFX, and hopefully that'll do a good enough job on D3.

meh, John Carmack added an nVidia-specific codepath to Doom3. I wouldn't be surprised if it allows the game to run in 12-bit integer precision in addition to 16,24, and 32-bit floating point precisions. Since integer operations are handled on-card for most AGP video cards, while FP operations are sent over the AGP bus to the CPU for processing, i'm sure when all the quality options are turned down you'll be getting 30-40 fps on a GF1.

On the other hand, it'll also look like crap. *shrug* at least you can play it, although the graphics will suck and you will probably have to turn off most textures and dynamic lights...so basically there would be no point in playing it.

    ??

Dogs can run pretty fast y'know.

The minimum specs don't really worry me personally. I'm going to pawn off all my posessions and sell my body to the street if needed to get a Radeon 9800 pro before HL2 and D3 ship.

who cares? HL2 will kill doom even if the crappy gameplay and buggyness of ID games wont

    Mmm... 9800 Pro.

Oh, don't let my gloating discourage you from playing Doom 3 or HL2 at low graphical detail.

I'm sure it'll still look nice... *snigger*
