<div class="IPBDescription">I.e, how do I stop them?</div> Recently, I have been getting a lot of crashes where my system will just lock up. I haven't tried to see if this is with other games, but it certainly seems to do it a lot with NS.
If you could tell me what causes these lockup crashes, and how to prevent them, I would be forever greatful and probably give you a cookie.
(please note I defragged yesterday and that hasnt fixed it)

Test other games before you try fixing the computer.
mate, your really have to give us info
jsut saying 'my computer borks when playing Ns whats wrong?' dosn't help. The only sure fire solution to that "Buy a new computer that comes preassembled"
now if you were to:
1) tell us sys specs
2) tell us all of the games this hapens with (including mods)
3) make sure drivers are up to date
4) when tdid this start
5) did you change anytihng recently (progies/hardware)
6) ANYTHING OTHER THAN 'my computer crashes, whats wrong?'
sry, its a little harsh, but you have to help us out. You are the eyes, ears and hands for us. All we can do is suply the brain <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Check for IRQ-conflicts.
1.5ghz processor, 384mb ram, Radeon 7000 graphics card, what else do you need?
2) tell us all of the games this hapens with (including mods)
It happens with EVERYTHING! Once when I was browsing the forums it locked up <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
3) make sure drivers are up to date
For what in particular? Graphics, sound and network card drivers are up-to-date.
4) when tdid this start
About two weeks ago.
5) did you change anytihng recently (progies/hardware)
Been downloading some large-ish movies off Kazza (gotta love MST3K)
6) ANYTHING OTHER THAN 'my computer crashes, whats wrong?'
Does this qualify as "anything else"? <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
The proggie i'm using to test if it's still crashing is Star-Trek Elite Force 2 (don't knock it til you see the graphics <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> ). It seems to crash far more with STEF2, suggesting this could be CPU usage-related.
Oh, and I have 2 sticks of ram, I've tried both of them individually, both crashed.
And I don't know what an IRQ-conflict is.
Scan it, scan it, scan it..ctrl alt del, kill all programs that aren't vital, try running windows internet washer and some regcleaners (look for regcleaners and windows internet washer on downloads.com)
My bet is you either have a virus, something hardware-y isn't right or you're running too much on your comp.
I've already used a regcleaner.
Meh.
Um, could it be bad ram? If it is, is there an EASY (ie, without buying new ram) way to tell?
I went to #hardware on gamesnet and the guy there was pretty much 100% it was bad ram, but i've tried my ram sticks one at a time, and both of them still crashed.
the only thing I can think of is to go borow a friends stick of ram and try it out.
