    I think I've heard that a flamethrower isn't going in unless it's pretty (pff), and that it's nigh-impossible to make a pretty flamethrower in the HL engine.

    It's not impossible to make a cool looking flamie in HL-engine. Like Sirus said, it's hard to make volumetric flamethrower that works on low-end comps too.

    I could have sworn that some guy once demo-ed a really good lookin' flamethrower on the HL engine. So it is theoretically and graphically possible. But true that low-end comps and connections defin. would have a hard time with it as well as the volum. problem.

While i do agree that in the future versions, we need some variety of weapons for the marines, a flame thrower is out of the question. You guys will have enough fun with the new grenage launcher anyway, trust me ^_^

    Pointless? it'd clear the vents like x-lax and prune juice, for goodness sakes! way better than the grenade launcher could ever do.

    [sarcasm]No more skill in NS? OMG NOOOooo![/sarcasm] pfft. who cares if "there's no skill in this weapon" there's been thousands of weapons that have "no skill" like a highly powerful sniper rifle, heat-seaking rocket, etc. Spray and Pray is supposed to work for the flamethrower since those flames put a barrier between you and the thing you're torching. besides skill doesn't exist since you fire in a cone shape, anyways, and there are no head hitboxes.

    It's not like Natural Selection is friendly to low sytem requirments anyway.     I believe this is the Desert Crisis flamethrower. These people can't even model good hands and they're making a good flamethrower!

    Pointless as in not adding to the game value. It would just be a huge ball of flame that doesnt really do much...You know, while we're at it, rocket launchers would be cool, and so would a rail gun.

    Railguns are usually used with vehicles and rocket launchers are used against vehicles. Since NS doesn't have vehicles then there's no reason to have them (I'm ignoring your sarcasm). Flamethrowers would have a "point" in NS, they would burn stuff. I mean we could say all a GL does is shoot grenades that have no point, or a HMG shoots bullets that have no point, but we're not because the "point" argument is kind of pointless.

    I think a flamethrower should replace the GL as the anti-building/webb weapon, it would be much cooler taking webbs down with a flamethrower than a lame welder or GL. What's the validity of "cool" in a computer game? Well I wouldn't be playing computer games if "cool" a consideration in a game designers mind.

    If a alien is in the vent you currently use the GL; GL makes aliens run away from the *timed* grenade. If you used a flame thrower that was volumetric you'd just stick it in the open end of the vent and shoot. *SWOOOSH* Everything in the vent is extra crispy.     A railgun would be nice... It would be like a really slow ROF shotgun used for long range.

    And I haven't seen this one brought up yet:
    New SECONDARY weapons. Ok, we got the pistol, and then the "items" (mines, welder), but what about a more powerful pistol or something?
