Voice Chat Going On And Off

Let me start by saying i just bought a new microphone and this problem still goes on, so that rules out that.

When i play in game and use voice, others say they can't udnerstand me. So i used voice_loopback and it comes on and off, stuttering. I rebinded to several different keys, but this problem still goes on. I looked in the forums and on the net but nowhere did i find a solution. I have the latest Directx and the proper Mobo chipset drivers... The microphone works fine in windows and in other mods, but Ns is the ONLY place where it stutters. If i hit the key very fast, it stutters less, but still does a bit. It's just impossible to use... Please help, this is driving me nuts.

Well i assume you went to the voice setup prog to run your mic right?

If you did then you might try using the system setup button. When you open up the voice tweak window there should be a button for the system setup. Well i reinstalled NS, the flcikering got much better but it still flickers a bit. Before my voice icon would go on and off, now it stays, but the sound is still a bit stuttering/garbled. I ran the system setup, gonna go check it out now... I'm not using a headset btw, but a set of headphones and a separate table mic that's about 7-10 inches from my mouth, that could be the problem...

If you have really low fps (<15) your voice comm will tend to stutter. Prehaps that's the problem?

I just use a simple mic with a stand i got with my dell comp. I dont know if Half-Life supports multiple mics, so that could be the prob.

ok, try this:

Start a LAN game
put on the loop
try it out

if you STILL get the problem then I am confuzeled (well possibly not)

If not: You connection bite <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> fix it. (btw this is what I am betting on)

if it is still bad on the LAN, I would put my money on a low end system not tweaked right (use netgraph 3 to look at ping fps and pkt loss)

ok, possible solutions:

A) For It Working On A LAN:
You connection is probably sorta flakey, you can test this ussing netgraph 3 (look at ping, choke and pkt loss).
I am sort putting my money here b/c it perked up some on a reinstall. Upon reinstalling you might have told it the proper conneciton type.
This changeses some trasfer variables, Rate is one of them. I don't know the rest, You need to find those out from other people and then try to tweak em.

B) For It Not Working On A LAN:
I would place money on your system having probs (give us your seysspecs)

If all of the above don't work, go into your sound settings (its a little speaker in your taskbar, if you can't find it, hunt for it at your sound settings in your windows config) and try messing with those settings. Some are for microphones so might affect it.

Well it WORKS but the sound is crappy, half the time it stutters/spits... It works fine, once again, under windows. I have ADSL but it usually gives me isdn speeds. On reinstall i put 256k dsl, it yhink the first time i'd put 512... i tried changing cl_rate and that didn't help... I'm too lazy to reinstall again and have to re-do all my controls, maybe one day if i have the time... If you don't want to edit your controls and settings, go into your NS folder and grab your autoexec.cfg and put it on your desktop, or your .exec or whatever, then re-install, put the autoexec.cfg back in your NS folder and overwrite it, done!

next up:
to change what hl thinks your connection is:
load up NS (custom games --> NS)
go to internet games
go to find a server
on the top right there is a box with connection speeds, change it.
