Alright well, for me personally, I use two seperate programs, based on what needs to be done.
-Real Draw PRO
-Photoshop Elements

For sigs and such, I use Real Draw PRO, and for things such as skinning, I use Photoshop.

I'm not a big colorer of my illustrations, since I prefer the impact of just black and white, but either program can get the job done. Elements would be wiser for detail, while Real Draw, for minor spruces (such as adding cracks into your picture in about 1/1000th the time if you were to freehand it).

Anyway, that's the two programs I use, unless, of course, you count MSN Paint.

MS Paint > All

EDIT: As for making sigs and such, we'll use my sig as an example, using Real Draw PRO

For the siding, I basically took 2 rectangles and combined them together to form one block. I then used a beveling, skinning, and a few other tools to get it's metallic look, as well as the light direction. I then laid another recatngle down over the text, which was using a beveling and skinning tool as well, and used a transparency tool on the block, to give it the small line look. Pretty simple once you get used to it. If I can figure it out by playing with stuff, anyone can

Same as Esuna... Although, I sometimes use psp7 to edit the colour palette, because you can actually go in and edit each indivdual colour (I haven't seen how for Photoshop.)

Goto Image > Mode > Indexed Color. Then goto Image > Mode > Color Table and you can edit the colours there.
