How do I take my own pic and put it in?
Okay, I made a picture which I really like, it features Nancy and her skulk I'll post a resize of it on the forum right after I finish explaining my problem.

Okay, in c:\Half-Life\Ns\gfx\shell (or whereever you put your game) After I had made this picture I replaced my Splash.bmp file. Then I ran NS and the picture was utterly unrecognizable due to the menu options (Multiplayer, options, config, etc.) And once I got the game going it wasn't even displayed on the console it still used my old splash.bmp

So, how do I insert my picture into the game without it ending up distorted? I'll post the resized version of it and if someone needs the actual bitmap file to fix it I'll post that later.

    ack, teh cute.

Hmm... one does not know... there's the idea that it has to be exactly the right size, encoding, and pallet size...

You know how to extract the old images and veiw their statistics?...

I remembered something about creating a custom cached.wad, but Im not totally sure but they said something about the console and splash pics being in that wad :/

Could give a search for it in google though

splash.bmp isn't your console... that is the menu image... the shell is what you see when your not in a game, the console is suposed to only be seen in-game, which is why it is not linked to the splash.bmp

the console, apears to you in the cached.wad file this lies outside of the gfx folder structure, and in your main NS folder... the location for your cached.wad must be exact for it to work, to make this wad, i think i usedeither Wally, or another program that slips my mind at the moment.

in wally, you can open up and view what is in the cached.wad, and you can replace items apropreatly

Okay, I've downloaded Wally v.155b installed it and opened cached.wad in my main NS directory. There's nothing there ^.^;;; I've opened the other wads in my main NS directory and they have plenty of textures, but this particular *.wad is empty. I have tried to add my image, by create new image, but I don't know what I'm doing and this is all very confusing. I'm positive somewhere there is a tutorial on how this is done, I have checked the Wally site so far nothing useful... Could you run me through it Delarosa?

Oh and Liger, my image has the exact dimensions and the same format 256 colors as the splash.bmp. Err, which reminds me is there any explanation why my new bitmap wouldn't show as the menu without being distorted by the clickables?(Multiplayer, Config, Exit etc.)

Edit: If it helps any, I tried opening other Half-Life cached.wad's (different mods) I got the same problem...

of course you can't see it,it's specially embedded in,somehow you must use a certain file from the HL SDK to create that wad

EDIT : YES no more drone,I am a beast!

umm, on my site there is a menu replacement pack that i made, i i don't remember how i did it exactally, but i remember i had to have a c:\console with a little program that takes the cached.bmp and turns it into the cached.wad...

i got it off of some CS website...

    i just remembered that... it's not a wally-made WAD, that's why it's giving errors...

your spash.bmp doesn't even show up for the menu? you use it's an 8-bit windows OS bmp with indexed 256 colors?

I did save the image as 640- Ahh! I found out the menu picture problem, I saved the resolution as 600x480 and not 640x480. Well I got that one fixed, now I just need to figure out how to put it into the console too....
