There is a potential opportunity for the NS team to release NS v2.0 a few days early, in the form of a semi-open beta program. This beta would get 2.0 out to a wider group for testing (making the 31st public release even better), but would only be open to paid members of a certain service. Perhaps more importantly, it would give a huge amount of exposure to NS, and give it more servers, greater acceptance in the competitive community, and more fan sites. It may also generate some direct revenue for the NS team.
Something like this was done for Desert Combat, and it seemed to have a great effect on the size of the community, but also aggravated some of the long-standing members of the community.
The million dollar question is: would giving the game out early in this promotion be an overall good thing or bad thing for NS?
