Half-life Graphic\sound Problem

Hey im writing this here because ive never had this problem in HAlf-life before installing NS and cant be bothered signing up for a membership in another forum. I seem to be having a general game engine problem. Everytime i go mimise the game by alt-tabing or by pressing the Startmenu button on the keyboard (by accident of course) and return i cannot here soumd anymore. the only way to get the sound back is leave the game and return to the first screen (where u select the read-me, custimize and the multiplayer) and then it mysterously returns. Can anyone help me?
Also i cant change the graphic settings for the game. Well I can change them but they dont seem to take effect. I does randomly for some reason take effect but then i cant see the ammo count, kill counts or chats. Can any one help me?

    Well that happens to every game in Half-Life.

    It has nothing to do with NS. I got this before i installed NS.

    Its a Half-Life prob. the only way to solve it is too go back to the main menu (the one with the button that says custom games) When you do, the sound will return.

    on another note

    the rez problems:

    I get that also, what is possibly happeing is that it changes the rezz but it dosn't fit it to your miniter (very odd),so you end up with parts of it off scrn (no you can't play with minitor controlls).

    as for a fix? None that I have found, just pick a rez that works <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Well i found a kinda solution for the sound thing. Im using Gamespy nowm so ur always on the title screen anyway when u press esc, so u dont need to disconnect the game and go back to there.
