<div class="IPBDescription">Giving you both barrels</div>There are separate previews of Natural Selection up at two GSI network sites, PHL and 3DAP.

<a href="http://www.planethalflife.com/features/articles/naturalselection/" target="_blank">PHL Hands-On Preview of NS (From Fragmaster)</a>

<a href="http://www.3dactionplanet.com/features/firstlooks/naturalselection/" target="_blank">3DAP preview of NS (From MrE)</a>

Both have interesting information, are well written, and don't say 'we hate NS!'. Besure to comment in the 3DAP forums as well, as there is a lively thread going right now.

And the PR guy rejoices...

They both seemed incredibly vague to me... :/

the text from the 3dap looks like it's just written without playing.
the text from phl is a little better

Yah, I have to agree I was a little disapointed with them. They both seem quite wary in their reviews, and I guess they should be. NS will be a hard game to learn, and might not appeal to everyone. *crosses fingers and hopes not*

It's understandable. Natural Selection is to Counterstrike as Team Fortress was to Quake DM. A massive gameplay shift. But TF has been going strong for 6 years, soooo...

The PHL one was -much- better.

The 3DAP one had mis-captioned screenshots (ancient screenshots even) and pointed out the lack of secondary fire without explaining -why-.

The PHL one was pretty good, Fragmaster seemed to know what he was talking about <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

NS will not be hard to learn. However, many FPS players expect to be able to jump in and play a game without any knowledge of what their doing. The RTS genre is more or less different. Some of them have intuitive interfaces with helpful pop-ups to guide the newer players, but often the use of tutorials, campaigns, and manuals are somewhat required before getting the hang of those games. If these potential NS players have a little more patience than usual, they'll get a more rewarding experience from this game than your typical FPS. (IMO)

At least the initial difficulty will hold off the cs players for a while.

HAHA! I AM A CS PLAYER AND I WILL NOT BE HELD OFF!!

But I'm also a experienced RTS/TBS player and I know that in games like Starcraft you can't run into the enemy base and expect to live.... and the AI in some RTS games sometime feels like it is mutinous (spelled wrong)....

So I combine the best (or worst) of both worlds, patience and tactical thinking and a big gun.  <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

I liked both previews, but thought the PHL one was much more engaging as a read.

    I don't know what i'm gonna do...Warcraft III and NS...decisions!!!!

    NS wins. <!--emo&:asrifle:--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/asrifle.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':asrifle:'><!--endemo-->

Fire Warrior: When I say CS players, I mean the ones who team-kill/cheat/1337§p34k and scream like a girl whenever they die (OMGS YUO @%^*@ BULL@#*&%!!!1).

CS used to be my favourite game untill the servers were swamped by people like that, so I really don't want the same to happen to NS.

Don't pub and you won't run into these problems.  I hate when people say they hate CS but they haven't played real CS.

I hate CS, but that's because I'm sick of playing it.... after 3 years of playing it you get that feeling....

And what's the option for those of us who aren't in a clan?

I particularly don't care for clannage, as there are too many rules, scheduled things that you have to be at, and way too -serious- about playing games. And most of the clans I have run into (except one or two) are the typically arrogant "If you ain't in a clan, U R n0t l33t," type people.

It's sad about everythign that has happened to CS. It does have become a much better and more technical game, but at the same time that every computer games newspapers and magazines. spreading the word that is CS, it was overflooded by people who never had played this kind of game online  and people from deathmatch games such as quake,
and a wave of flaming, whining, TK'ing and cheatign started.

Sadly, this was the period when the fun part of CS turned into a dull part of CS, it turned from teamplay to deathmatch, only to have real teamplay in clanwars.

Unfortuntly the clan community was overflooded as well with people whining ect. And with popularity came the cheats, as if it was'nt bad enough, now all then people who never understood the teamplay that "was" CS, could just download a cheat and suddenly be uber at all the servers.

Natural-Selection will most likely not go through this kind of development, as the idea of teamplay is rather firm and obvious on the marine side and a doubt it's a game you can just jump into and start going on a killing spree.
Even tho the part of TK and turning into a deathmatch modd is rather small there is still the possibility that people will start whine, cheat and acting lame, but then again, most online based games have this.

Personly i dropped cs about the same time as all the chaos broke loose, instead i found another modd which promoted teamplay, or rather enforced teamplay for victory, FLF.
Never have i seen many cheat in this modd and the community works really well with few so called lamers. I belive it's the enforced teamplay that has scared away most of the "unserious people"
Seeing NS feature both enforced teamplay and the choice to go solo, it might experience, problems and positive actions from both worlds.
I am and still will be playing this modd until NS hit's the public then i will with excitement jump in and do teamplay with both marines and aliens.

So to do a summary of this, NS will have it's share of problems, but i doubt it will be of the same scale as that of CS.

I'm getting the feeling that NS is gonna be the mod that beats CS. I don't really see what's the big deal about CS. Sure it's fun, but I mean, it gets old.

And if you go to the right servers (read: German ones), you'll find that CS is able to not have cheaters.

CS didn't 'get that way' from all the press, the boxed set, etc.  It's had its share of twits all along.

I'm sure NS will, too.  Every mod does.

    No, Here are my thoughts
    TF2 will overtake CS.

TF2 is practically based off of NS. Look and It and you will see what I mean.

Oh well. That AdminMod will come in handy for the "KILLEMALLDEATH-666L337X0r$-IR0WNZJ00OMFG#@$" people out there who want to be commanders.
  • PlaguebearerPlaguebearer Join Date: 2002-03-21 Member: 338Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
God, I hope not.  I hate Admin Mod... so easily abused.  The ability to simply vote out the commander, built into NS, is fine as-is.
  • ErpErp Join Date: 2002-01-25 Member: 90Members
I played CS hard-out for 6 months untill the llamas took over. I had so much fun, them were some great times.

    /wipes tear from eye

Thats the thing that worries me about NS, it looks so damn great I know it will get popular quickly, and then the cheaters will arrive...

Eeugh, Clan play will be more fun anyway.
