Ns preview on 3d action planet

Hmmmmmm
Ehhh, I suppose the preview was decent, but I thought the author said some stupid things. Like "...despite this handicapp(Mod+Half-life)..."
I think Mods are in many ways better then retail games. For one thing, they're free! But the main reason is that a mod, unlike a retail game, evolves and signifigantly changes over time. For example, look at DoD. Version 2.0 was in essence a new game, but kept the old aspects that everyone liked(the setting, the tension, the realism.) As for NS, there are almost endless possibilities of things to add: just go look at the Ideas Forum.
And about Half-Life: It might not be quite up to date, but thats not such a bad thing. The grpahics are good enough for me, and the lag isn't bad at all compared to newer games. I have a decent computer (733mhz, 128 ram) and DSL and Medal of Honor STILL chugs and lags like hell. Also, just look how many great mods are out and coming out for HL compared to the other FPSs. None better then NS of course.

Another thing is that they used a lot of old pics, i mean how hard is it to send of a short email to MonsE asking to use the most recent PT pics on RR.org

plus the overall review seemed VERY skeptical.. i.e. "well they are promising this but lets just see if they have a slim chance to deliver" type of attitude. I really thing this is just a horrible preview, as it doesn't do anything to praise how great the mod is, it just slams it for being a mod, and having a possibly steep learning curve.

i might point out at the end he said, i just might be reinstalling half life soon. Sounds that though he is delivering a bit of scepticism, he thinks it could be just as good as we already know it is

He does point out the two points that will decide how NS will play when it goes public in his second to last sentence.

    A. Whether Marines will act as one. I know that most of the NS community is dedicated to playing and living this game as it was ment to be, but what will the average-CS player do?

    B. Will the Commanders be able. It would take someone who knows what they are doing to be the commander (weren't there ideas of setting up servers to help this problem?) It would have to be someone who knows good stragies and can react quick, something I know I wouldn't be set for.

Forget any mistakes he could have made in that preview, as everyone knows NS looks great, and will have a strong demand when it is released due to Monse's crazy PR prowess, but do heed caution to some of the criticism he made.

The arguments he made were valid, I don't think we need to flame it that much. He did say some rather stupid things, but I thought it was a pretty good preview. Shame bout the pictures, though.
