Final Fantasy 7 was on PC...but I think that's out of print now, pretty sure it's a collectors item...heh. I think I saw FF8 for sale too, but could have been mistaken.

I hear fallout's a good RPG, and 1 and 2 can be found packaged together.

To be honest, I down really own any RPGs for my computer...besides Neverwinter Nights. I do have FF7, FF8 and BoF3 for my Playstation though...And Morrowind for Xbox (didn't have a good enough computer at the time, still good...If you know how to prevent the dirty disk error, since it happens once your save file is over 110 blocks or so).

Probably not helpful at all, heh, sorry.

Listening to: Californication, by Red Hot Chilli Peppers
...I hate that band name though...blech.

Eh I'm waiting for Jedi Academy rather that KOTOR, for the saber combat alone.

FF7 and 8 are available for PC. Personally, I still feel any FF after 6 doesn't deserve the title, though...

Aside from that, I'd suggest to just pick an Infinity Engine game (Baldurs Gate 1/2, Icewind Dale 1/2) up. They should keep you going until KOTOR comes by.

Baldurs Gate 2 has 200 hours of gameplay <b>without</b> some of the optional sidequests. Its insane. Thats not even including the factional encounters (good, neutral, evil) and class quests (fighter, cleric, wizard, etc). Now factor in that there are something like 300 spells and 500+ unique items.

    Must...install again...must...be...Ninja Kensai Mage...

Personally, I loved Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption. In fact, in my opinion its the best RPG I've ever played. But not everybody likes it though. Its worth a try though, and probably in some bargin bin for $8 or so now.

Fallout, Fallout, Fallout. And if you finish that with time to spare before KOTOR, go with Fallout 2. For $10 or less you can buy a 2-disc set with both (look for a dual-jewel case with the 2 games in the bargain bin).

Other than that, there's Deus Ex and System Shock (both a good mix of first-person and RPG elements) and anything Nemesis Zero and DooManiac mentioned above.
[edit] Morrowind is another option -- it's essentially an MMORPG minus the "O" (and thus the griefers, timesinks, camping, and monthly payments).

What he said - <i>Torment</i> rocks, plain and simple. It's the best of the Bioware RPGs so far.

However, if you just want a filler game and you've not played Icewind Dale or its sequel, they're pretty good ones to grab. The first one should be easy to find cheaply now too.

Vampire doesn't work on 2K / XP systems, though. Believe me, I tried.

How could I've forgotten Torment? It is quite possibly the truest PC RPGs will ever be to what P&P can be.

As for DX / SS2 - everyone here knows I love them, but one should be advised that they aren't strictly 'Bioware-style' RPGs. If one likes FPS and adventure elements (and being on these boards kinda indicates that), they're however absolutely amazing games.

At present i've restarted Morrowind and have a level 36 thief (<a href='http://deus.org.uk/files/screenshot3.jpg' target='_blank'>lookie</a>). Addictive and absolutely HUGE game. Very open ended.

I would recommend picking up one of the older (older than 10, that is) FF titles. You can pick up a new or used PSX copy of FFVII for around £10 or so, you can also pick up FFVI for around the £10 mark too. Well worth picking up, and entirely compatible with your PS2. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Why not just play Natural Selection until then? <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Should you own a PS, there's a remake of the greatest console RPG ever, Chrono Trigger (originally for SNES). If you have the chance, pick it up.

Ah, yes, and get Final Fantasy IV before you get VII or VI because IV>all Final Fantasys <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    PC RPG's?

I can't believe you fools forgot this one.

    <span style='font-family:Geneva'><span style='font-size:21pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:red'>NEVERWINTER NIGHTS</span></span></span> and

    <span style='font-family:Geneva'><span style='font-size:21pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:orange'>NEVERWINTER NIGHTS: SHADOWS OF UNDRENTIDE</span></span></span>

It is the closest you will get to really good gameplay that actually plays almost like a PnP

I hated Neverwinter Nights. With a passion. After all, they cut out the most important part of a traditional D&D-Style RPG - your party. Sure, the graphics are pretty good (although weird animation and running bugs abound), the quests are somewhat creative (although, from what I've heard, the main storyline in the expansion is just a giant clone of the original, in terms of gameplay). I never really got into the online scene; when I first picked up the game at it's release, all the custom modules <i>really</i> sucked, and there was no real network stability to speak of.

I do highly reccommend Bioware's other RPGs: Baulder's Gate Series, Icewind Dale, and the Fallout Series. Also, I highly reccommend Deus Ex and System Shock 2, although, like Nem noted, they are different than the tradional RPG in terms of gameplay style and overall feel due to their first-person nature.

My advise? Stick to ns, cos MMORPGs are pure evil. I played one, and I will not return. Ever.
