GJ @!!! is that drawn tho or some good photoshopp'n?
I doubt it's painted over a screenie though. The proportions are slightly off on the torso, and those "cables" are not exactly like on the model either.
However, here is one that is based on the model. Used hlmodelviewer to get the base, messed with
the colors in photoshop and went bonkers with the smudge tool. Cheap, but I have no scanner and my
computer drawing skills are non-existent (sp?). Besides, I think it turned out ok.
Now let's hold hands and pray the image shows up.
What I've been doing is taking screens in-game, importing them into photoshop, and going from there. The procedure is as follows:
1: Get a proper screen.
2: Open Photoshop.
3: Create a new layer over the blank background.
4: Open the screen up and paste it on the empty layer created in the above step. Change the opacity to around 50%.
(this allows the black lines to be seen easily in the following steps).
5: Create a second new layer (blank)
6: Select the paintbrush tool. Change the color to pure black. Use a round brush, with a pixel radius of 4-6 pixels
(hardness 100).
7: Begin tracing the outline on the layer created in step 5. Use the Shift+Click method to make straight lines. This is an important process - one cannot make the outline too rounded, or it loses the sharp , cartoonish quality. Continue around the entire model, detail being user-decided. There's a quick example I threw together for this post, taken from the lerk concept art attached to this post (panel 1).
When the main outline is finished, use the same brush and method to outline the legs, arms, horns, or armor plates (as on the onos). After this entire process is finished, one should have a perfectly replicated picture of the model in the screenshot, sans color and texture (panel 2).
8: Next is coloring-I primarily use the paint bucket for coloring. Pick a vibrant color that closely matches that of the original model and fill the entire picture in (panel 3)
9: Next is the detail phase-this is entirely up to the artist. Shading, filters, backgound, etcettera.
10: And behold-a passable lerk! (panel 4)
